"Little Island·Fragrance" (formerly known as "Little Island Rue") is the opening play of the Hong Kong Repertory Theater's 2023-24 drama season. As the play's screenwriter, Hong Kong Repertory Theater Artistic Director Poon Wai-sum affectionately calls this play "a love letter to the island of Hong Kong." It has been more than 30 years since the play was first performed and has been performed many times in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou and overseas.

This time, Pan Huisen revised this work and "unprecedentedly" teamed up with three assistant artistic directors Liu Shouzheng, Qiu Tinghui, and Fang Junjie to co-direct, bringing to the Beijing audience a "six-hand bomb" version of the performance jointly completed by three groups of actors. It was hailed by the media as Hong Kong Repertory Theater's "biggest little play".

At the sharing meeting on the 11th, Liu Shouzheng said: "Mr. Pan Huisen's (Pan Sir) script has a kind of charm. This seems to be a simple love story, but it has broad implications." Qiu Tinghui also has some opinions about the play. Unique interpretation: "This is a romantic sketch and an adult fable."

Another Cantonese drama "Ambiguous" has won the 30th Hong Kong Drama Award, Best Script Award and Outstanding Production Award in 2022. Award-winning screenwriter Zheng Guowei and young director Fang Junjie jointly present a work with a completely new style.

The first collaboration between Adrian Cheng and Fong Junjie at the Hong Kong Repertory Theater began with "The Last Supper". In fact, they knew each other as early as the screenwriting class at the Academy of Performing Arts. Adrian Cheng was Fang Junjie's screenwriting mentor at the time, and they have known each other for more than ten years. Fong Junjie said with a smile that he and Adrian Cheng were born on the same month and on the same day, so they have similar personalities and have an invisible tacit understanding. Through the story "Ambiguous", the two discuss the institution of marriage together, showing the love and exhaustion in trivial life, and the light and friction in the subtle human nature. As Poon Huisen said, "Good drama can unlock the code of life, taste metaphors between the lines, and discover the true self in the light and shadow on the stage."

It is reported that three Cantonese dramas "Little Island·Fragrance", "Ambiguous" and "The First Floor in the World" " will be performed at Tianqiao Art Center from July 12 to 14, October 18 to 20, and January 2025. These three plays are all key plays in the Tianqiao Drama Show. (End)
