Shanghai is really over the edge. Since the beginning of the plum season on June 19, there have been localized heavy rains almost every day. The forecast shows that the rainy season in Shanghai will be perfect this week. Some netizens said helplessly that the sky in Shanghai seems to be leaking and the rainy season will never end... The question is, why did the rainy season start so strongly?
It can be seen from the national precipitation monitoring map that a clear plum rain belt stretches across the Yangtze River Basin in my country. The Central Meteorological Observatory stated that my country's weather pattern has been very stable recently. The area from the Yangtze River Delta to Jiangxi to Hubei and Hunan is under the control of "violent plum rain". The plum rain belt continues to have new convection, resulting in continuous precipitation.
Yesterday (23rd), Shanghai was shrouded in rain. From 0:00 to 16:00, heavy to heavy rains occurred in most areas in the west, north and south of the city. Among them, Jinshan Petrochemical Street had the most rain, with the cumulative rainfall reaching 56.9 mm. At night, there will be moderate to heavy rain in some areas.
Today (24th) is the day with the least rainy season in Shanghai recently. Due to the southward pressure of the Meiyu belt, the rain in Shanghai has weakened. There are only short-term showers in the south during the day, and local showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. The highest temperature is 30℃.
However, the rain break was only short-lived. The rain will intensify again tonight. The Shanghai Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that the subtropical high will continue to maintain a strong form for some time to come, which is conducive to the transport of water vapor to the Yangtze River, and the position of the subtropical high is relatively stable. Although the rainbands swing from north to south, the plum rains in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River will continue. There will be frequent showers or thunderstorms in Shanghai. There will be showers and thunderstorms every day from Tuesday to Sunday this week. The humidity and heat will not change significantly. Everyone should not relax in preventing mildew, dehumidification and heatstroke.
Why did the Meiyu season start so strongly this year? Meteorological experts said that according to the causes of rainfall, rainfall in my country is mainly divided into four types: frontal rain, convective rain, orographic rain, and typhoon rain. The recent plum rains, which started with a "violent" start, are typical frontal rains. All types of rainfall require three conditions: sufficient water vapor, suitable dynamic lift conditions, and the presence of a large number of condensation nuclei in the air.
One of the reasons why the plum rains are strong this time is that the dynamic conditions are very good. There happens to be a high-altitude trough passing in the north, which brings cold air southward. The intersection of cold and warm forms a relatively strong shear line system. In addition, the warm and humid air flow in the south is strong, and water vapor The conditions are also good, so the precipitation efficiency is high and the rainfall is very considerable.
Such violent heavy rainfall will continue until at least the end of the month. According to the mid-term forecast of the Central Meteorological Observatory, in the next ten days, there will be four rounds of heavy rainfall in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River with almost "seamless connection". The precipitation in the Jianghuai, northern Jiangnan and other places will be significantly higher than the same period in normal years.
