The Yangtze River is the mother river of the Chinese nation and an important support for the development of the Chinese nation. This year marks the third anniversary of the implementation of my country’s first river basin law, the Yangtze River Protection Law. Years of practice and achievements in protecting the river have given Jiangyin City, which is located at the end of the river and the head of the river, more confidence to achieve the goal of “clear water, green banks, and fish swimming at the bottom.” Behind it is the dedication of several generations.
Zheng Bingqing is the granddaughter of Zheng Jinliang, a representative of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress and the "first person to be exiled from the Yangtze River".

In the 1960s, the Jiangyin section of the Yangtze River was a golden waterway with lush water and grass. It was especially famous for its "three delicacies of the Yangtze River": "fresh saury, fat anchovy, and beautiful pufferfish". The ecological environment was very good. , but later due to overfishing and environmental pollution, the aquatic biological resources of the Yangtze River seriously declined, and the "three delicacies of the Yangtze River" have long been hard to find. Artificial release is the best way to save puffer fish from extinction. Therefore, the annual release event is the day that Zheng Bingqing looks forward to most, and she is never absent.
The preparation activities started at midnight. From fishing, packaging, oxygenation, proofing, to loading, bags of fry carried the hopes of many people. That night, everyone stayed up all night.
The growth cycle of a pufferfish is two years. It is not easy to raise it, and it is also very expensive to sell in the market. However, Bingqing and his grandson still insist on releasing 500,000 pufferfish seedlings back to the Yangtze River. As of June this year In September, more than 180 million pufferfish and other rare fish fry have been released into the Yangtze River. Seeing the pufferfish seedlings he had raised released back into the Yangtze River, Zheng Bingqing admitted that it was "of great significance": it could make its own contribution to restoring the aquatic biological resources of the Yangtze River and maintaining the biodiversity of the Yangtze River.
Inspired by his grandfather's words and deeds, Zheng Bingqing determined to become the "Hujiang Messenger". Her dream is to become a "technological new farmer", learn nursery technology and raise rare fish well. After graduating from graduate school, Zheng Bingqing returned to his hometown, worked hard on technology, and used artificial insemination to achieve large-scale breeding of puffer fish.
empowers the fish pond breeding industry with technology. She leads the team to maintain cooperation with scientific research institutions such as Nanjing Agricultural University and the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. Drones, unmanned ships, automatic feeding equipment, and online water quality monitoring are added to the breeding process. systems and other modern fishery tools to promote fishery modernization.
Currently, the breeding water body she is responsible for exceeds 250,000 cubic meters, and the annual breeding output exceeds 150,000 kilograms, making it the largest green shad production base in the country.
Zheng Bingqing spent 23 years of persistence in exchange for practical results: wild river dolphins reappeared, finless porpoises were seen again in the Yangtze River, and fish populations recovered, gradually becoming a reality.
As a National People’s Congress representative from the agricultural front, Zheng Bingqing is well aware of the great responsibility. She studies with an open mind, visits the masses, and listens to public opinions; she takes on the responsibility of a representative and holds multiple training courses on a voluntary basis every year to promote ecological shad farming technology; she uses her professional skills to deliver theme lectures for students, calling for "together we will achieve great conservation, Don’t engage in large-scale development”, the Hujiang spirit is passed down from generation to generation.
"I would like to send a piece of 'ice heart' to the clear water to protect the most moving background of the Yangtze River." Now, Zheng Bingqing has begun to train her daughter to become the next generation of "river guardians" and protect the clear water for generations to come.
From "leaning on the river to eat the river" to "loving the river and protecting the river", Zheng Bingqing is writing a wonderful chapter of "Yangtze River Protection" with heart and soul, constantly interpreting the responsibilities and responsibilities of young people in the new era with galloping enthusiasm and enterprising power.
