New Yellow River Client, Shanghai, June 22 (Reporter Tan Dengfang) On the afternoon of June 21, the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival entered its eighth day, and Japanese director Shunji Iwai was a guest at the festival's film school.
Shunji Iwai was born in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan in January 1963. He graduated from Yokohama National University and is a famous director and writer. In 1995, Shunji Iwai launched his film debut " Love Letter ", which won many awards. Starting from "Love Letter", a series of films such as " Swallowtail Butterfly ", "All About Lily Zhou", "Flower and Alice", "New York, I Love You", " Hello, Zhihua ", laid the foundation for Shunji Iwai status in the hearts of movie fans.
When talking about Iwai Shunji's works, "youth" is the most important keyword. Shunji Iwai made a metaphor: When we were young, we were ignorant and felt that the whole world revolved around us. After we entered society, we had to change our thinking, give up many things, and then grow up little by little. "During this process, sometimes I don't want to give up my childhood self, and sometimes I want to close myself off. I wonder if I can film the thoughts that are closed in my heart so that others can understand."
Although most works describe the youth of contemporary people, in Iwai Shunji's view, this is a universal theme that anyone can understand no matter which country or era they live in. "Times are constantly changing, but as long as we can capture the essence of youth, people from any era or country can understand it, so I photographed youth."
Iwai Shunji's youth narratives are always related to social events , social atmosphere and important social issues, such as the immigration issue in the movie "Swallowtail", the bullying issue in "All About Lily Zhou", the psychological reconstruction issue after the Japanese earthquake in "The Song of Kyrie", etc. "I suddenly discovered that these three films all reflected social issues, with a greater breadth and depth than other works. Other works may be closer to daily life. When I shot these three works, I did not deliberately focus on social issues. Digging deeply just reflects the inner life of people in daily life. "
Iwai Shunji's film soundtrack is also a hot topic among movie fans. After the news of Shunji Iwai's visit to the Film School was announced, one of the questions fans most wanted to ask the director online was about the film's soundtrack. Iwai Shunji responded that he has been very fond of film soundtracks since college, and it can be said that he "likes it too much", so that he may spend the same proportion of time on creating movies and composing music. "A certain scene in the movie and the music that matches it may appear in my mind at the same time. If the scene I see in my mind happens to have the music I want, it is the most important thing for me. A moment of happiness.”
