This year’s film festival has collected more than 3,700 entries and exhibitions from 105 countries and regions covering five continents. After selection, 50 works from 29 countries and regions entered the five categories of the Golden Goblet Awards, including 38 world premieres, 6 international premieres, and 6 Asian premieres. The premiere rate reached a new high.
Among the 14 shortlisted films in the main competition unit, 12 have world premieres and 2 have international premieres. Guan Hu's " A Man and a Woman ", Wei Shujun's "Sunshine Club", Gu Changwei's " The Hedgehog " and Zhang Dalei's "The Stars Are Waiting for Us" will join 10 films from 11 countries. "My Mother's Pain and Me" by Wang Xinrui, "Fishbone" by Zhang Xuyu, "This Friday's Playground" by Zeng Zhi, "Shelter Tower" by Zhang Luoping, "Winter Traveler" by Lu Dan, Zang Lianrong and Xu Ruogu A total of 6 Chinese-language works of "Peace and Peace" were shortlisted for the Asian Newcomer Unit. The 11 works in this unit are all world premieres.
Among other Chinese-language works, Cao Liang's "The Royal Cat of Jinling" was shortlisted for the animation unit. "Searching for Another Story" by Liao Yiling and Zhu Baiying (Taiwan, China) and "Aunt Hu's Garden" by Pan Zhiqi were shortlisted for the documentary category. Zhang Dalei's live-action short film "Why We Dream" was shortlisted for the short film unit. He also became the only director to have two works shortlisted for two competition units this time. The Chinese works shortlisted for the short film unit also include Yang Xiaoman's "Embrace", by "A Good Day to Swim" directed by Liu Zhiquan and He Xinyuan (co-produced by Hong Kong, China, Mainland China, and Taiwan, China), Dong Yang's "Red Car", and Guo Xiaoruo's animated short film "Kill This Horse". Yuan Mocong, the director of the British animated short film "Floaters", is also a Chinese girl born after 1995.
The juries for the five categories of Golden Goblet Award Main Competition, Asian Newcomer, Documentary, Cartoon, and Short Film are composed of French director Chen Yingxiong, Chinese director Cao Baoping, American scholar Bill Nichols, and French animation director Benjamin Ray. New Zealand director Mark Albiston serves as chairman. The 22 jury members come from 13 countries and regions. Including films in competition, this film festival will screen a total of 461 films from 64 countries and regions, including 70 world premieres, 48 international premieres, 81 Asian premieres, and 73 Chinese premieres. The premiere rate has increased year after year.
More than 5,000 guests at home and abroad from more than 60 countries and regions will gather at this film festival. The “Belt and Road” Film Festival Alliance, launched by the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2018, has invited more than 20 countries to attend. and regional alliance representatives came to Shanghai to gather for the “Belt and Road” Film Week. In addition to the alliance press conference, the “Belt and Road” Film Culture Roundtable Forum, the “Latin American Style” Carnival, the launching ceremony and the closing ceremony, this year’s “Belt and Road” Film Week screening unit will screen 18 films with the theme of “The Road to Courage” Films from “Belt and Road” countries. Director Dapeng (Dong Chengpeng), who won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Actor at the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival last year, and Yao Chen, who won the Best Actress Award at the Asian Content Award at the 24th Busan International Film Festival, Invited to serve as the promotion ambassador for this year's "Belt and Road" Film Week.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the China-France Cultural Tourism Year. The "French Film Week" specially planned by the Shanghai Film Festival will be launched at the "Chinese Film and Television Night", with 38 latest French films and more than 30 French classic films. Or films co-produced by France, they will meet with Chinese movie fans in various screening units to showcase the diverse perspectives and social aspects of contemporary French films.The "Cannes Zero Day" section, which has been deeply loved by movie fans in recent years, returns strongly this year, bringing fans 15 films freshly released from the Cannes Film Festival. French director Chen Yingxiong, who serves as the chairman of the jury for the main competition unit of this Golden Goblet Award, said: "It is a pleasure to watch and discuss movies with other judges. It is reported that the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 14th to 23rd and will last for 10 days.
