"Movies are like language. When I make a movie, it's like I'm telling a story in this language. We live in the same world and can appreciate film art from all over the world. I speak with a completely open mind. Express the mentality and communicate with the audience," said French director and screenwriter Chen Yingxiong, chairman of the jury for the main competition unit of the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival. The annual Light and Shadow Festival kicked off yesterday, and the luxurious jury lineup also appeared for the first time, including Australian director Love de Heer, German director Matthias Glasner, actors Tony Leung , Zhou Xun and others gathered together to share the "movie city" in their hearts.
Chen Yingxiong is an old friend of the Shanghai International Film Festival. He served as a judge for the main competition unit of the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2011. Now that his identity has changed to the chairman of the jury, he said frankly that he was very honored, "Thanks to the film festival for giving me this opportunity to concentrate on watching movies and having in-depth discussions with my peers." During the meeting, the judges mentioned "sense of responsibility" many times. Tony Leung revealed that although some foreign judges arrived in Shanghai the night before, the judges had already held a small meeting to discuss how to reach a consensus on judging the quality of the film. In Zhou Xun's view, film selection is a subjective matter, and it also requires the full cooperation of the jury to "communicate with each film with our most sincere and authentic feelings."
This year’s film festival selected 50 entries from 29 countries and regions to enter the selection of the five major categories of the Golden Goblet Award. Among the 14 shortlisted films in the main competition, 12 are world premieres and 2 are international premieres. Argentinian director Santiago Miter is already ready for the movie feast: "I didn't make too many presets. I believe I will get an amazing experience beyond imagination." Matias Glasner is also looking forward to it, because movie, he will gain an unforgettable experience in Shanghai and forge a solid friendship.
For Chinese director and screenwriter Song Taijia, the Shanghai International Film Festival is a veritable blessing. From his first film "The Sun Is Always on the Left" winning the Asian Newcomer Award, to " Alajan Se " winning the Jury Prize, to now he himself is a member of the jury, he laments that this platform provides talented young people with With a broad platform, "it is particularly valuable for directors of different nationalities to express their own lives."
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the China-France Cultural Tourism Year. 38 latest French films and more than 30 French classic films or films co-produced by France will meet Chinese movie fans. "I am very eager to cooperate with Chinese actors, which attracts me very much." Chen Yingxiong sighed. Zhou Xun immediately sent an "invitation" to the director: "With the three of us, we can make a work." Chen Yingxiong responded that he hoped to be an actor and asked Zhou Xun to be the director, while Liang Jiahui said that he wanted to be the assistant director. While chatting and laughing, Chen Yingxiong, Tony Leung Ka Fai and Zhou Xun, sitting next to each other, formed a small "circle of friends" in Chinese and French movies. Interaction, communication, and integration are perhaps the most fascinating aspects of the film festival.
