The Shanghai International Film Festival (siff) will officially kick off on June 14. The film festival is also a festival for filmmakers and movie fans. The World Expo Museum launched the Film Culture Month event in June. At the recently held "Me and Shanghai International Film Festival" themed lecture, Shanghai International Film Festival arranger Wang Jiayan shared his relationship with the Shanghai International Film Festival.

Host Chen Yixin was making the opening speech, and Wang Jiayan was preparing to take the stage to give a speech.

Just a few days ago, Wang Jiayan, who had just finished arranging films, posted on WeChat and said: " will schedule more than 400 films in half a month. 6 months I wish you all good luck in getting the tickets you need at noon on the 7th. My mission is completed, and you will have to work hard next!" Regarding the film arrangement of each film festival, it is undoubtedly the most attractive topic to the audience.

In this issue of Morning News·Zhou Zao's "Shanghai Living Room" program, we interviewed film critic Wang Jiayan (screen name: Four Eyes Laowang , hereinafter referred to as Laowang), and asked him to share the behind-the-scenes stories of the movie schedule.

Wang Jiayan recalled: At that time, he once arranged the same movie to be screened in two cinemas at the same time.

Lao Wang is 75 years old this year. He has participated in the creation of the Shanghai International Film Festival since 1993, starting from the 4th Shanghai International Film Festival in 1999. Participated in the film arrangement work, there were 388 films registered for that film festival, and 228 films were screened, involving 37 countries and regions, with a total of 816 screenings. For the first time, an electronic display screen was used to provide Chinese and English dialogues.

According to Lao Wang's recollection, in the past, movie screenings were all in the form of copies. Films were often changed during the initial screening at the film festival, so there was a reminder on the movie ticket - the screening is based on the day of the screening.

During the initial film scheduling process, Lao Wang once made a mistake and scheduled the same movie in two cinemas on the same day and at the same time. So, how did you solve this own problem at that time? Lao Wang told the audience:

"I arranged the same movie at Tianshan Cinema and Yonghua Cinema, both at 8:40 pm. But there was only one copy, and there was nothing I could do at the time, so I arranged a few short films at Yonghua Cinema. In the cinema, there is an extra half hour before the movie is shown. A friend of mine drove a motorcycle and we borrowed a car to wait as soon as the cinema put a copy, because the time for each copy is different. Some are 20 minutes, some are 22 minutes, and some are 18 minutes. Of course, don’t think that you can catch up with the later movie screenings. Sometimes you may not be able to catch up completely. "

Lao Wang happened to meet me during the screening in Yonghua that night. I met an old friend who didn't know about the "crash" in the movie schedule at the time, and regretfully said that he was late for the movie. Lao Wang joked with his old friend: "It's good that you are late. The movie was shown late today."

Although many years have passed, this incident still has great impact on Lao Wang. The impact was so great that he did not dare to be careless or slack in the film arrangement work.

To this day, 98% of the same movie is not shown twice within a day. Some films arrived very late. We can’t make copies now, and since safety cannot be guaranteed, we won’t schedule the films. There is no longer the phrase “the screening is based on the day” on the movie ticket. As long as the audience takes this ticket, the movie will be shown. .

Wang Jiayan is arranging films for this Shanghai International Film Festival

As a viewer and arranger of films at the Shanghai International Film Festival, Lao Wang will encounter various situations every year in addition to watching and arranging films, and there are too many of them The changes are commonplace and not surprising for Lao Wang:

"Some films may not be able to participate in the film festival even if they pass the screening process. Sometimes the film producers will say 'this film can't come now', Or say, 'My film is now participating in another film festival.' Some films will arrive late, and some films will arrive early and leave early. There will be many changes in the film studio."

Wang Jiayan took a group photo before the film schedule of the cinema of previous film festivals (historical data picture)

Lao Wang said that as a film arranger, he would also think from the perspective of the film festival's openness and inclusiveness, and respond to the film producers' proposals Some suggestions and requests are also understandable:

"Because they may have company considerations, and the screening of some films will involve multiple aspects. In the past, there were often extra scenes. Some film producers were willing to add extra scenes, some were not willing to do so, some had to pay for extra scenes, some were free of charge; some extra scenes were allowed, but they could not exceed the number of viewers. "

" So when arranging the film, you must first look at the requirements of the film producer. For example, the actors who win the Golden Goblet Award and the Asian New Year Award at the annual film festival are coming. When will they come? What date will you attend the meet-and-greet? For another example, if the film has its world premiere or Asia premiere before the film festival, it means that all screening times cannot be earlier than the premiere day. "

During the on-site interactive session, many enthusiastic movie fans put forward some of their opinions on the film schedule of this film festival. Lao Wang gave an explanation:

"This film festival has more than 1,600 films and 47 films. There are 58 screens and 462 movies in the theater. For these film arrangement tasks, our final proofreading took a day. When arranging a film, all factors must be considered, including whether the time interval between scenes is enough? Spectators also have an entry and exit problem. Therefore, it is impossible for every film to be arranged perfectly, and it is impossible to satisfy every audience. There will always be some small regrets in the end. "

" The Japanese cartoon "Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Star" is placed in Caoyang Cinemas, with more than 490 locations. Movie fans may be thinking, maybe Lao Wang is too old and confused, just one movie Why not put it in the great light? Because this was stipulated by the film studio, he said that there should be no more than 500 people, and Caoyang Cinema had more than 490 seats. It is estimated that this film will be released in the future, so it will have restrictions. " Norwegian Wood ", the film crew requested that it be screened in the same theater (also Caoyang Cinema). Because this film is a late-show movie (20:40), we arranged the films at a staggered time. After a few days, the film studio said no, the film must be put in one theater, and it must be screened for three consecutive days on June 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.

"Detective Conan: The Million Dollar Star" will be screened at Caoyang Cinemas on June 15.

"Norwegian Wood"

Lao Wang told the audience that at this year's film festival, he and his colleagues still did a good job in arranging films. Some attempts:

"We placed documentaries in Duoyunxuan and Huanmao, cartoons in Metro City, " Havoc in Heaven " and " Iron Fan Princess " (new 4k restored version) Put together (same theater front and back), it's a combination of old cartoons and new cartoons. In addition, there are some movies that we put in the same theater, so the audience can watch them from beginning to end; but there are also some movies that are shown separately, like Pokémon movies, which are shown in multiple theaters. Some movies take into account that the mall is not fully open for business at 10 o'clock in the morning. Three movies will be shown today and three movies will be shown tomorrow, which makes it easier for the audience to choose. "

htmlTickets opened for one hour at noon on June 7. 286,000 people participated in the ticket grab at the same time, and the number of tickets issued reached 355,000. As of 20:00 that night: 00, the number of sold-out shows has reached 529. A total of 36 films screened at this film festival were all sold out in just 10 minutes. Due to the popularity of popular films, it is difficult to get tickets. Wang made a personal suggestion:

"When you watch movies, some movie fans are used to picking out popular movies. But I think the film festival should watch some movies that are not usually seen. movies like American movies are often seen by everyone, but Nordic movies are not widely seen. This time I recommend a Danish movie called "When Liberation Comes", which tells a story in the late period of World War II, and "15 Years" (directed by Chris Kraus), which is quite good. Well, if you like music, you must not miss this movie. The piano music accompaniment will make you mesmerized. "

Some citizens think that the film festival shows all old films. Lao Wang said: "In fact, 70% of the films we screened at the film festival are new films. The names of old films are familiar to everyone and can be remembered, while the names of new films are It’s not available on Baidu or Douban. New films should be made known to the audience, usually films that have participated in international film festivals and have won awards. ”

Shanghai is a city of movies

In Lao Wang’s view, Shanghai is a city of movies. Shanghai is also the city with the highest box office for Chinese movies. Shanghai has the most sentimental and professional audiences. As for the Shanghai International Film Festival, in fact There are endless stories to tell.

For movie fans, regardless of whether they have bought their favorite movie tickets, the Shanghai International Film Festival will be a festival for them to gather together.

Wang Jiayan and Gu Xiaodong took a group photo with readers on site.
