From June 7th to 8th, the musical "Age of Awakening" with a revolutionary historical theme was performed at the Guangdong Friendship Theater, and the audience was full. The play is adapted from the hit TV series of the same name, which won the "Five One Project" Award, the Feitian Award, and the Magnolia Award.
The musical "The Age of Awakening" shows the magnificent historical period from the New Culture Movement to the founding of the Communist Party of China. The difficult journey of the revolutionary predecessors to save the nation, pursue the truth, and turn from darkness to light. On the basis of retaining the main narrative line of the TV series, the play uses a sing-along artistic method for stage expression. Thirty original songs are soul-stirring and run throughout. The
musical "The Age of Awakening" has been carefully polished for two years. Preparations began at the end of 2021 and will premiere on April 28, 2023. It has been performed more than 50 times so far. In order to keep improving the stage presentation, at the end of 2023, the main creative team gathered again to deeply polish and improve the repertoire, achieving a comprehensive upgrade of content, music, and stage design. The musical "Age of Awakening" opened again on April 26, 2024, and entered the Centennial Lecture Hall of Peking University on May 10 and 11, arousing enthusiastic responses among Peking University teachers and students.
The excellent cast is another highlight of the musical "Age of Awakening". Well-known actors and musical actors such as Yu Xiaolin, Wang Peijie, Li Leyao, Zhao Zichong, Cui En'er have once again gathered together, and a group of outstanding young actors have also gathered this year. Joining the play, young actor Hou Jingjian, who plays Mao Zedong in the TV series, will also make a special appearance in the play. The outstanding young actors make the performance of the musical "Age of Awakening" full of youthful power and high-spirited passion.
Before the performance, the crew conducted a behind-the-scenes interview on June 6. The show's chief producer Liu Yan, screenwriter and lyricist Wang Yiwa, and the show's starring actors Li Leyao, Yu Xiaolin, Hou Jingjian, and Yang Yahui were present to share their creative processes. It is reported that after the show ends in Guangzhou on June 8, it will return to Beijing for two consecutive weeks on the eve of July 1st. From September 16th to 17th, the 2024 national tour will end in Qingdao.
