At around 7pm, with the gorgeous night outside the window, a "Nocturne" inspired by the night view of the North Bund flowed from the fingertips of young composer Luo Wei. Tonight, the first performance of the North Bund's "Flowing Notes" concert series kicked off at the World Living Room, where three original new works premiered.
This concert has the theme of "Dreaming on the North Bund" and is divided into four chapters: "Walking in Shanghai", "The Temperature of Music", "Picking up Light·North Bund" and "Dreaming on the North Bund". Among them, the premiere of new works includes the ensemble piece "Walking on Zhapu Road", "Nocturne" performed by specially invited saxophonist Li Shihai, and the concerto piece "One Day: Sunset Dialogue on the Riverside", all selected from the soon-to-be-completed "Hongkou Symphony Concerto" .
Luo Wei has launched the "Piano Essay" series since 2013. He often triggers inspiration by walking in the streets and alleys of Shanghai, and records the "moments" of Shanghai with music. On June 16 last year, after he completed composing "Guests | The World", the theme song for the World Living Room, at the North Bund, he turned his attention to Hongkou. In the creative process of nearly a year, what he felt most deeply was that unlike other "city walks", the creation using Hongkou as the "prototype" was more diverse and complex - there was not only romance here, but also humanistic thoughts and fireworks. For example, when he was walking on Sichuan North Road, he would think of the profound works created by Lu Xun here, and also guess what kind of coffee Mr. Da drank for afternoon tea, and finally wrote "Opening 1927·To Lu Xun". For another example, he saw Hongkou at around 7 o'clock in the evening, and the original "Nocturne" was based on "Night Shanghai". The city was far from asleep and life had just begun.
The relevant person in charge of Hongkou District said that this performance is not only an audio-visual feast, but also part of the "immersive urban landscape". The "Flowing Notes" concert series is a new form of the Hongkou District Bureau of Culture and Tourism to promote the implementation of the "Three Cultural Places" three-year action plan and deepen the construction of the North Bund's artistic shoreline. By inviting artists to create and perform works with the theme of Hongkou and the North Bund, the North Bund will be turned into a music gathering place, allowing people to hear Hongkou and meet the world in the North Bund. Next week, pianist Song Siheng will also come to Hongkou to perform an interactive piano concert in Paris and Shanghai.
