The May Day 2024 box office ended with 1.527 billion, the average daily box office exceeded 300 million, the total number of screenings broke the May Day record, and the number of moviegoers was second only to 2021. The box office on the first day was 410 million, which was second only to 2019 and 2021. Then the box office exceeded 300 million for two consecutive days, and the single-day box office trend was relatively stable.
" Peace Corps " and " Thelma and Louise " took the lead, contributing more than half of the box office, and achieved box office results of 406 million and 392 million respectively during the period. " Kowloon Walled City: The Siege " and "Spy House Code: White" ranked third and fourth, with box office contributions exceeding 10%; the top five films' box office box office all exceeded 100 million.
This year’s May Day movie viewing average per person was 1.16 times, and the proportion of users who watched movies twice or more exceeded 8% again; the average number of tickets purchased per order was 1.86, basically the same as in previous years, and the attribute of watching movies together is stable. Among them, women like to watch "Peace Keepers" the most, men like "The Siege of Kowloon Walled City" the most, young audiences like to watch romance films and Japanese animations, and older audiences prefer parent-child animations, action and comedies. "Thelma and Louise" has the highest multi-viewer share of 17% and a "funny" mention rate of 8%, ranking high among comedies. With its comedy elements, it is highly popular in northern regions.
Shanghai topped the city box office list with a box office of 69.072 million, followed by Beijing and Shenzhen in second and third place. The top four cities all had box offices exceeding 50 million. Beijing Sparkle Jackie Chan Cinemas (Wukesong Branch) topped the movie theater list with a box office of 1.357 million, and the top seven movie theaters all had box office records exceeding one million. In terms of
ticket purchasers, women accounted for 61.4%, men increased by 3.3% compared with last year, and the age distribution was relatively close to last year.
