Chen Yingxiong, who won the Best Director Award at the 76th Cannes Film Festival last year for "Fondue", will serve as the chairman of the Golden Goblet Award jury at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival. The works of this French-Vietnamese director combine expressions of Eastern and Western cultures, and are delicate and sensitive.
Chen Yingxiong was born in Vietnam and settled in France in 1975. From 1985 to 1987, he studied filmmaking at the Académie Louis Lumière in Paris. In 1992, he launched his first feature film "The Taste of Green Papaya", which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Camera d'Or and Youth Film Award, and was nominated for the French César Film Award for Best Debut and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
His second feature film "Tricycle Driver", starring Hong Kong movie star Tony Leung , tells the bitter story of a tricycle driver in Ho Chi Minh City and won the Golden Lion Award for "Best Film" at the Venice Film Festival. The subsequent work " Taste of Summer" tells the life of three sisters living in Hanoi. The film was his first collaboration with Asia Pacific Film Award Best Cinematography Award winner Lee Ping Bin. He later directed the English-language thriller "Walking in the Rain" starring Josh Hartnett, and the Japanese film "Norwegian Wood" starring Rinko Kikuchi and Kenichi Matsuyama, the latter adapted from Haruki Murakami's novel of the same name. , and premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival.
In 2016, he directed the French-language film "Love is Eternal" for the first time, starring the famous French actors Audrey Tautou, Berenice Bejo and Melanie Laurent. His latest work "Fondue" was shortlisted for the main competition of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Director Award.
Chen Yingxiong has a close relationship with the Shanghai International Film Festival. In June 2011, Chen Yingxiong served as a judge for the main competition unit of the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival and held a press conference for his work "Norwegian Wood" during the film festival. Invited again by the Shanghai Film Festival Organizing Committee, Chen Yingxiong sent a greeting video and expressed that he was very much looking forward to discussing movies with other judges of this year's Golden Goblet Awards and Chinese movie fans.
