Chen Yingxiong was born in Vietnam and settled in France in 1975. From 1985 to 1987, he studied filmmaking at the Académie Louis Lumière in Paris. In 1992, he launched his first feature film "The Taste of Green Papaya", which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Camera d'Or and Youth Film Award, and was nominated for the French César Film Award for Best Debut and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

His second feature film "Tricycle Driver", starring Hong Kong movie star Tony Leung , tells the bitter story of a tricycle driver in Ho Chi Minh City and won the Golden Lion Award for "Best Film" at the Venice Film Festival. The subsequent work " Taste of Summer" tells the life of three sisters living in Hanoi.
