This Beijing Film Festival is guided by the China National Film Administration and sponsored by China Central Radio and Television and the Beijing Municipal People's Government. The opening ceremony was themed "Movies, Our Stories".
This year’s Beijing Film Festival invites Brazil as the guest country. At the opening ceremony, Brazilian Minister of Culture Marguerite Menezes delivered a video speech and said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil and China. Over the past 50 years, Brazil has been working hard to strengthen cooperative relations with China in various fields. This relationship is based on mutual respect and mutual understanding. For this year's Beijing Film Festival, Brazil has selected four works that reflect cultural and regional diversity. "I hope everyone can enjoy the magical charm of film, the seventh art."
At the opening ceremony, the jury of this year's Beijing Film Festival "Tiantan Award" appeared. Serbian director Emil Kusturica is the lead, and joins hands with Australian film sound designer David White, actor Fei Xiang, Austrian director Jessica Hausner, Brazilian director Carlos Saldanha, and actor Ma Li , actor Zhu Yilong , start this light and shadow art journey with the audience.
The total number of film registrations for this Beijing Film Festival is 4,273. Among them, the main competition unit "Tiantan Award" received a total of 1,509 feature film registrations from 118 countries and regions, and the number has reached a new high. The jury will select ten awards including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Artistic Contribution, and the final results will be announced at the closing ceremony and awards ceremony.
That night, Emil Kusturica awarded Zhang Yimou the special honorary award of the organizing committee.
