On April 18, the 14th Beijing International Film Festival, directed by the State Film Administration and sponsored by China Central Radio and Television and the Beijing Municipal People's Government, opened at the Yanqi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center in Huairou. The opening ceremony of this year's Beijing Film Festival takes "Movies, Our Story" as its theme, focusing on movies, people and things related to movies. The opening program "Spring, Come to Beijing to Watch the World's Best Movies" has the main theme of "If you are a light, you will illuminate the distance; if you are a shadow, we will walk side by side along the way."

The 15 shortlisted films for this "Tiantan Award" come from 21 countries and regions and stood out from more than 1,500 films. Since its establishment in 2013, the "Tiantan Awards" have always adhered to a diversified international perspective, appreciating world film art with an open eye, and welcoming world film masterpieces with an inclusive attitude.

At the opening ceremony, the judges of this year's "Tiantan Award" also made a gorgeous appearance. Including the famous Serbian director Emil Kusturica, Australian film sound designer David White, actor Fei Xiang, Austrian director Jessica Hausner, Brazilian director Carlos Saldanha, actor Ma Li, Actor Zhu Yilong.
Zhu Songchun, director of the Beijing Institute of General Artificial Intelligence, served as a guest speaker. As a computer vision expert, statistical and applied mathematician, and artificial intelligence expert, he talked about the close and subtle connection between artificial intelligence and the development of film art.
The opening ceremony not only showed the gorgeous beauty of light and shadow to filmmakers and audiences, but also presented an audio-visual feast to the film industry. "Mulan", a music, poetry, painting and dance program with the theme of "movies shine into reality", tells the story of the relationship between movies and reality that reflect and achieve each other. Hao Ruoqi, a young dancer from the China Opera and Dance Drama Theatre, and Ling Yun, an intangible inheritor of Emei martial arts, partnered with singer Li Yuchun to interpret the traditional Chinese story "Mulan Joins the Army".

The special program "Light and Shadow into Reality: Tribute to Women's Power" invited Chang Shana, the former dean of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts who is over 90 years old, Captain Song Yin, search and rescue instructor of the East China Sea First Rescue Flying Team, and war correspondent Chen Huihui Representatives of outstanding female workers in various fields, together with three female filmmakers Qin Hailu, Ye Tong, and Zhang Mo, told stories that resonated with the spiritual power of movies.
's program "Reading You" invited performing artist You Benchang, who is also in his 90s. Together with actors Gao Yuanyuan and Hu Ge, he communicated across generations and discussed the history and development, inheritance and innovation of Chinese films.
American singer Betty Higgins and Anda, a band from Inner Mongolia, sang the classic song "Casablanca" together, leading the audience to reminisce about the love story in the classic film.
