Xu Jian, Chairman of the Preliminary Evaluation Committee, said: “This year’s applicants include not only state-owned troupes and private theater troupes, but also university drama clubs, drama studios and many new performing arts institutions and artistic performance groups, basically covering It reflects the symbiosis of multiple production entities in the current domestic performance market; the submitted performance types are in full bloom, including dramas, operas, musicals, children's plays, dance theaters, immersive performances, etc., reflecting the broad influence of the 'One Drama Awards' What is even more gratifying is that many new faces have emerged in this year's selection. "New generation" creators accounted for 70% of the total. In the selection of "Best Small Theater of the Year", the competition for "Best Small Theater of the Year" was particularly fierce. A total of 83 plays were submitted, which triggered heated discussions among the preliminary evaluation committee.
In the end, three works with novel themes and unique perspectives were recognized by the preliminary judges and shortlisted for nomination. "True Detective Zhao Goose" integrates various elements such as detective work, suspense, comedy, and Beijing flavor in an immersive performance space, giving the audience an unconventional and immersive viewing experience; "The Validity of Facts" builds a bridge between the noisy Internet voices and the real reality, triggering the audience's realistic thinking about "truth" and "viewpoints"; "Where is the nearest accessible toilet?" 》focuses on marginalized groups with disabilities and conducts in-depth discussions on social topics in a way that is more in line with the context of the current era.
In addition, the "Best Imported Play of the Year" that has "disappeared" for nearly three years has "returned" in this year's awards, but the number of applications is not large, reflecting that the true "return" of foreign plays still needs a process.
This year's "One Drama Awards" is the first time that the role of "producer" is included in the selection system as an application object. When talking about this award, Guan Bo said that producers play an important role in drama production. They need to proactively control the overall production and marketing according to market changes to ensure the arrival rate of the works to the audience. The establishment of this award for producers may make us further think about the role of arts management in drama production. Another highlight of
this year is the refinement of the original "Best Screenplay of the Year" into "Best Original Screenplay of the Year" and "Best Adapted Screenplay of the Year". Xu Jian believes that in recent years, the number of literary, film and television adaptations has gradually increased, and has often become a topic-level phenomenon and the focus of attention. Because the adapted works are based on the original works, they are different from traditional ones in terms of the originality of the stories, plots and characters. There is a big difference in terms of original scripts.
Among the plays that participated in the "One Drama Awards" this year, more than 50% of the works were adapted plays, and adaptations also accounted for a large proportion of the works nominated for the awards. "The subdivided awards are, firstly, more in line with the reality of drama creation and performance; secondly, they help protect and respect originality, so that different fruits of labor can be fully recognized in different tracks."
