Repertoire Introduction: The unique intangible cultural heritage folk custom "Jiang Shili", also known as "Jiang Xiang Lion", popular in Huangpi District, Wuhan City, is the most lively activity of the local Lantern Festival. Lion dancers are called "horse feet". According to legend, they will be possessed by "generals", which is mysterious and extraordinary.

Wang Si, the youngest "horse-footed" migrant worker in the village, returned to his hometown of Huangpi on the Lantern Festival. He once promised his wife that he would never play with the lion again, but because of the invitation from the "leader" in the village, he "dismounted" (asked the general to possess him) again behind the back of his wife Huang Gui'e. At this time, Huang Yalan, the younger sister who has always been regarded as "not doing her job properly" by Huang Gui'e, returned to the village with her friend Pan Jia to plan the live broadcast of intangible cultural heritage. A special family conflict is about to break out...

Background of the play

Chu Opera "Jiang" was created and rehearsed by Huangpi District Chu Opera Troupe in 2023. The premiere was selected at Wuhan University and was selected for the 2023 Daliangshan Drama Festival.

In terms of content creation, the Huangpi District Chu Opera Troupe specially invited Liu Danli, the director of the Jingchu Theater Art Research Institute of Hubei Province and a famous Chu opera and opera artist, to serve as the artistic director. They also boldly employed a young team with rich creative experience to launch this meticulously. This new Chu opera, which lasts about 60 minutes, is the first to be performed in the form of a small theater. It is a youthful and innovative attempt at Chu opera. It is compactly arranged, highly interactive, and the immersive viewing experience is also refreshing for the audience.

The play cleverly integrates the local culture of Huangpi. Through the perspective of ordinary families, it revolves around the two story lines of whether to "dismount" and planning the live broadcast, and eloquently interprets the charm of intangible cultural heritage. At the same time, it combines the hot topics of the times such as rural revitalization, integration of culture and tourism, and college students returning to their hometowns to start businesses, conveying the open-minded life attitude of "travelers on the road".
