The Skywalker Saga is over, but there are still many new movies in the "Star Wars" series on the way. Lucasfilm officially began announcing upcoming movies at Star Wars Celebration 2023, which means "Star Wars" will be back on the big screen soon.

summary

Lucasfilm has officially announced the release date for the new "The Dark Knight" movie, indicating that future plans for the series are clear. The Mandalorian and Grogu will be first in theaters, scheduled for release on May 22, 2026. Other announced projects include Rey's "New Jedi Order" movie, a movie centered on Grand Admiral Thrawn from "The Mandalorian" timeline, and a movie exploring the origins of the Jedi Order.

Star Wars

Although many development work was delayed due to the writers and actors' strike last year, Lucasfilm recently confirmed that these projects are still in the process of advancement.

Currently, Lucasfilm has confirmed three release dates:

May 22, 2026 December 18, 2026 December 17, 2027

Currently only the first date has been officially confirmed, so the other releases Dates are subject to change. With that premise in mind, here's my collection of upcoming Lucasfilm movies over the next decade.

"The Mandalorian and Grogu"

Din Djarin and Grogu are finally coming to the big screen!

Lucasfilm has confirmed that "The Mandalorian and Grogu" will be the first of this new wave of Star Wars movies. Not much is currently known about The Mandalorian vs. Grogu, but it's reasonable to speculate that it could be based on Jon Favreau's script for The Mandalorian Season 4. . It has now been confirmed that the film will be released on May 22, 2026.

"New Jedi Order"

Daisy Ridley's Star Wars Return

One of the three major news of the 2023 Star Wars Celebration is that Daisy Ridley will return to the Star Wars universe. As the core Jedi of the sequel trilogy era, Rey will play the founder of the new Jedi Order 15 years after "The Skywalker Saga."

Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by Steven Knight, this untitled film will bring us a new Star Wars timeline - the so-called " New Jedi Order ".

"The Mandalorian" movie

is a continuation of "The Mandalorian" and "Ahsoka".

Lucasfilm's Dave Filoni has been rising to prominence recently, having recently been promoted to chief creative officer. A protégé of George Lucas, Filoni worked closely with Jon Favreau on The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

This will be a film set in the era of The Mandalorian, with the main villain likely to be Grand Admiral Thrawn - although Filoni has stated that this won't just be a rehash of the traditional New Republic versus the Empire.

Dawn of the Jedi movie

The origin of the Force is about to be revealed! One of the last movies announced by

at Star Wars Celebration 2023 will be set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. Written and directed by James Mangold, the film is set during the so-called "Dawn of the Jedi" era - however, it doesn't necessarily include any Jedi.

According to Mangold, it will be "a kind of origin story about how the Force became known to humans." Mangold developed a strong relationship while working with Lucasfilm on Raiders of the Lost Ark and pitched the project directly to them.

The Lando movie

was originally conceived as a Disney+ TV series, but Lucasfilm has confirmed that Lando will be adapted into a movie. The project was originally written and overseen by Hellraiser's Justin Siemian, but was replaced by Donald and Stephen Glover shortly before the Hollywood writers' strike.

With Donald Glover reprising his role as Lando Calrissian and the two brothers responsible for the film's development, it can be expected that the character's appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be maintained. A release date for "Lando" has not yet been set, but the script has been written since the Hollywood strike ended.

Sean Levy's Star Wars movie

Writer/director Sean Levy has confirmed that he has been tapped by Lucasfilm to direct an untitled Star Wars movie. After the news first broke to the media, Levy shared on social media that it was his dream project.

The film is expected to begin production after Levy completes work on Deadpool 3, although the Hollywood strike has complicated things somewhat.

Regarding the latest developments on the film, Levy said that his Star Wars project was "on hold" like most projects in the industry, but development has begun on Strike. Levy's Star Wars movie is still a few years away from being released, as there's still a lot of work to be done.

Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy

Lucasfilm was clearly impressed by Rian Johnson's work on The Last Jedi.

In November 2017, they announced that Johnson would be launching a new Star Wars trilogy outside of The Skywalker Saga. Surprisingly, Johnson's proposal didn't include any story at the time;

he's still in the early stages of drafting stories, so not much is known about the trilogy. There were rumors that Johnson's Star Wars trilogy had been canceled given the controversy surrounding The Last Jedi, but Johnson himself took to social media to deny those rumors.

Since Johnson's trilogy was announced, the director and Kathleen Kennedy have said a lot about whether the film will ever be made. Kennedy was asked again about the status of Johnson's trilogy at Star Wars Celebration 2023, and he reiterated much of what has been said about the film since it was announced:

Johnson is busy working on the third Knives Out movie with Netflix , but Lucasfilm and Johnson have not given up on the trilogy, but it has not yet entered a substantial stage of development.

Taika's Star Wars movie

In May 2020, Lucasfilm announced that "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi will direct a future Star Wars movie. Waititi will co-write and direct the project with Oscar nominee Christy Wilson-Cairns.

In December 2020, during Disney's Investor Day presentation, it was confirmed that Waititi and Wilson-Cairns had begun working on the film's script, with a concept art showing a diamond-shaped object in space.

Waititi gives occasional updates, and recently he emphasized that he wants to recreate the joy and wonder of Star Wars, which means it's a high-pressure job that will take some time.

Canceled Star Wars Movies

Lucasfilm has had a number of attempts over the years, including a series of abandoned Star Wars spin-offs after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - some of which were adapted into Disney +TV shows.

Josh Trank was originally attached to direct Boba Fett in 2014, but he left the project after the release of Fantastic Four. Director James Mangold (recently announced as the director of Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi) reportedly took over the project after Trank exited, but development stalled a few months later in favor of 2021's Dawn of the Jedi. The Book of Boba Fett TV.

Similarly, in February 2018, Lucasfilm announced that Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were developing a new Star Wars film series. However, due to unknown reasons, the duo left the project in October 2019.

There have been many rumors floating around blaming Benioff and Weiss' lack of success on the project for having to do with the poorly written ending of Game of Thrones, and the two producers have rarely been seen in pop culture since. .

In April 2023, Patty Jenkins' "Rogue Squadron" and a mysterious movie from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige were shelved.Feige's film and Jenkins' Rogue Squadron were announced in 2019 and 2020 respectively, with both films going through slow pre-production processes. This cancellation appears to be related to Lucasfilm's recent change of direction.

Star Wars TV in recent years

The future of Star Wars will not only be exciting on the big screen. With the launch of Disney+, there will be multiple reality TV series set in a galaxy far, far away. These include:
