Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, March 10 (Reporter Huang Qiantian) The 17th Asian Film Awards held an awards ceremony on the 10th at the Xiqu Center in the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. Director Zhang Yimou won the Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor of this year's awards, and the winner of this year's AFA New Generation Award was actress Zhao Liying.
At this year’s Asian Film Awards, 35 films from 24 countries and regions competed for 16 awards including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor and Actor. South Korean actor Lee Young-ae won the Outstanding Asian Filmmaker Award. Actor Jiang Qinqin won the best actress for "The World of Grass and Trees". Zhang Yimou's film "Man Jiang Hong" won the "Highest Box Office Asian Film in 2023" award at this year's Asian Film Awards.
Zhang Yimou said that he was very lucky to have chosen film as his lifelong career. He will continue to study and work hard, and looks forward to making better movies in the next one.
The Asian Film Awards was founded in 2007 and is the first Asian film award hosted by the Hong Kong International Film Festival. Since 2014, it has been jointly established by the three major international film festivals of Hong Kong, Busan and Tokyo. Hosted by the Academy, it aims to showcase outstanding Asian film works to the world. The members of the Asian Film Awards Academy come from past nominees and winners of the Awards.
