Information shows that in 2014, Hummingbird Music registered the stage name "Deng Ziqi" as a trademark.
On March 7, 2019, Deng Ziqi unilaterally announced the termination of the contract with Hummingbird Music, but it was not recognized by Hummingbird Music. Hummingbird Music stated at the time that the company had signed two contracts with g.e.m. Deng Ziqi, valid until 2022. Hummingbird exclusively owns the copyright of any musical works and recordings produced by or in collaboration with g.e.m. during the term of the contract, as well as certain other trademarks and intellectual property rights. In the same year, Hummingbird Music and Deng Ziqi sued each other for breach of contract, and both parties went to court.
In Deng Ziqi’s lawsuit against Hummingbird Music, Deng Ziqi claimed that she signed the contract as a composer and singer because the company made false statements, and therefore claimed that the contract was invalid. At the same time, Deng Ziqi alleged that Hummingbird Music had registered the "g.e.m." and "Deng Ziqi" trademarks in Hong Kong and the Mainland without his consent. In 2020, Deng Ziqi publicly shouted to Hummingbird Music and his former manager on Weibo, "I am not a commodity in your hands."
