The first "All Quiet on the Western Front"
The most "delicate" war movie I have ever seen. The movie does not deliberately divide the army into two opposing teams, but focuses on depicting the frontline soldiers who bravely fight with patriotism under the headhunting of the two armies. The movie does not overly promote anti-war, but uses metaphors in various subtleties. Focusing on every detail, such as collecting the nameplates of fallen soldiers; thrillingly stealing geese; cutting off women's posters; passing on ladies' handkerchiefs as a matter of faith... Paul gradually matures from a timid person to a brave forward, and finally moves forward even if he is hit by a sword. Witness the history you write until the last moment. The soundtrack is also shocking, with bursts of crisp drums and sad and melodious piano... It is the best and most impressive war movie I have ever seen after "Schindler's List".
The Second "Path of Glory"
Walking is a common sight in Kubrick's movies. Its monotony and endlessness are given meaning in "Path of Glory". There is a clear contrast between the deliberately long marching scenes at the beginning and end of the film. On the one hand, power ostentatiously creates a glorious illusion on top of the suffering it has created, and on the other hand, there are three Agamben-like sacred/naked figures. Life leads to hypocritical glory on its way to becoming a sacrifice for power. The simplicity of Ku's early work is not suitable for this movie. It needs to create a more exaggerated spectacle of self-power in the main part of the film, so that it can reap greater emotional impact when the true quiet glory of humanity arrives at the end. All in all, if you tend to be against war, or have doubts about war, you can find and verify your answers in this film.
The third part "1917"
If you want to say what the first feeling was when watching this film, it should be the immersion brought by the long lens. Along the way, from the perspective of the male protagonist, he walked step by step from the quiet green grassland to the oppressive and cramped trenches, and then to the death front line filled with artillery fire. Dialogue, gun raising, alertness, movement... I have to say that the director is very good at shooting, rich and colorful. The camera skills and almost obsessive camera connection perfectly portray the cruel impact of war during the march of the two soldiers. There are many back figures in the movie, either walking, running, squatting, or crawling. After completing the task, Scofield silently walked towards the big tree in the distance. His back was quiet and lonely. Just like at the beginning of the movie, he sat under the green shade again. He could finally close his eyes and take a nap again.
The fourth film "The Battle of Horgan Forest"
This film tells the story of a veteran who crawled out from the dead, was extremely war-weary and disliked his commander. When he was in danger, he was ordered to lead a few recruits to destroy the enemy's artillery positions and also destroy the enemy's artillery positions. Without taking a breath, he went to blow up the enemy tanks again, which contributed to the final victory of the battle. However, the film mostly shows a gloomy forest, bloody corpses, and nervous and numb faces. The picture is dark from beginning to end, giving people a sense of gloom and depression. This may be the emotion the director wants to express. On the one hand, it shows how ordinary veterans can become heroes who play a key role in the victory of major battles. On the other hand, it expresses their opposition to war. Although I watched it with 2.0 channels, the sound effect was surprisingly good. If there were 5.1 channels, it would be able to enhance the battlefield atmosphere even more. Overall, it deserves a 7.5 rating.
The fifth "Grand Phantom"
Europeans have indeed produced top anti-war films a hundred years ago. There is no need for bloody scenes, no direct shouting of slogans, and no display of cruelty and blood. The "anti-war" will also make people's hearts freeze when it finally arrives. And while watching, I exclaimed, "It's amazing." The enemy and the enemy called each other "sir" politely, talked about acquaintances like friends, paid attention to style and maintained etiquette, could smoke and play cards, perform comedy, have a big meal, and sing their own national anthem. . This is completely different from the shape and mode of our war movies. It is a completely new display of the relationship between the enemy and ourselves in war for me. This is the way in which aristocrats still exist and civilizations are inherited. When will the war end and when will things return to normal? People in the First World War did not know that what would follow would be a longer and more destructive World War II.
Five classic World War I-themed war movies, all of them are shocking. Which ones have you seen? Coding is not easy. Welcome to follow, like, and leave a message for discussion.
