Time flies by like a flash. In the blink of an eye, the thick calendar has turned over the last few pages of 2023 and ushered in the new year 2024.

In the past year, I participated in the coverage of many international and domestic events such as the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, the 4th Hangzhou Asian Para Games, the Chinese Super League, and the CBA League. Sports photography is a thrilling and thrilling job, and outside of the arena where the camera often focuses, there are also many interesting little details that require careful observation.

Why do we love sports? Maybe everyone will have a different answer. The audience in the stands cheers because of love, the athletes on the field fight because of love, the children in the community sports field have dreams because of love... It is precisely because of the convergence of thousands of different loves that each and every one in the history of sports has been created. Classic moments illustrate the power of sports.

Everyone can relive the classic events and major events in 2023 from the video replays, game photos, and text close-ups. What I want to share with you are some small details about "love" outside the game.

Love, regardless of age

Thursday, April 20, 2023. That night, the second game of the quarter-finals of the 2022-2023 Chinese Men's Basketball Professional League (CBA) playoffs was held at the Huanglong Stadium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The atmosphere of playoff games is always tense and hot. I arrived at the arena about an hour in advance to take some pictures of athletes from both sides communicating and warming up before the game. During the tour, I noticed an old man with white hair and a wheelchair being pushed into the court by the staff. This was something I had never seen before.

learned from the exchange with the old man that he was an old fan who was over 70 years old and invited by the club to watch the playoffs. Due to his illness, he entered the event in a wheelchair. In my experience of filming the CBA League, this was the first time I met such an old fan, so I decided to focus the camera on him. During the team's subsequent warm-up session, the veteran fan struggled to get up from his wheelchair and walked to the sidelines holding a Zhejiang Guangsha team jersey to cheer for the players. I quickly changed my position and combined the old man standing with the jersey in his hand with the team name behind the stadium. I took this photo of the oldest fan in my photo library, which shows the excitement between young and old in the stadium. Shared love.

Love, across geographies

Wednesday, November 29, 2023. That night, the fifth round of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League Group H match between the Chinese Super League Zhejiang team and the Thai Buriram United team was held at the Huzhou Olympic Sports Center. This is the last home game of the Zhejiang team in 2023, and it is also a key battle for the Zhejiang team to retain the qualification to qualify for the AFC Champions League group stage. Therefore, even though it was a cold working day, more than 8,900 fans were still enthusiastic and came to Huzhou from all over the country to witness the Zhejiang team's final home game of the 2023 season. In the end, after 90 minutes of fierce confrontation, the Zhejiang team defeated Buriram United 3-2, ending the 2023 home game with a victory.

After the game, I followed all the players and coaches of the Zhejiang team around the field to take pictures of the decisive moments that may occur during the closing process. It's always a pleasure to follow the victory shots, and the joyful and exciting atmosphere infects everyone in the stadium. The main color of the Zhejiang team is green, but when I came to a stand, a touch of orange quickly jumped into my eyes, which was slightly abrupt among the green in the field. I used the telephoto lens to zoom in and glance around, and it turned out to be a group of Shandong Taishan team fans cheering for victory together with Zhejiang team fans. I took a photo of this joyful moment, and kept paying attention to whether there were fans of other teams coming to watch the game in the stands. Sure enough, in another stand, I photographed several more fans of the Nantong Zhiyun team.

In the 2023 season, when Chinese football has once again experienced major shocks, these fans still have a love for Chinese football. They wear different jerseys and are even opponents in the Chinese Super League. But on this day, they are all Chinese football in the AFC Champions League. Home fans at the stadium. These scenes are rare and inspiring. In the trough period of Chinese football, this love that transcends the region is nothing more than a glimmer of light in the darkness, inspiring people who love Chinese football to keep moving forward.

Love, Breakthrough in Self

Thursday, October 19, 2023. On that day, there were three days left before the opening of the 4th Hangzhou Asian Para Games. In order to prepare for the upcoming Asian Paralympic Games, I found a news clue: Hezhuang Culture and Sports Center in Qiantang District, Hangzhou City is one of the first batch of "love-free" public service venues in Zhejiang Province, with a barrier-free swimming pool. After driving for more than an hour to the Hezhuang Cultural and Sports Center, I met several of the protagonists of this interview. They are all disabled people from various districts and counties in Hangzhou. Although they are in wheelchairs, they always yearn for the feeling of "riding the wind and waves" in the water. Some of them have come to this barrier-free swimming pool for training many times, and there are also newcomers who come to experience it with the mentality of giving it a try.

The main purpose of my interview was to highlight the barrier-free use of the venue, so I used a wide-angle lens to take pictures of people with disabilities using the barrier-free facilities at the exits of the locker rooms and the lifts of the accessible swimming pools. Once in the pool, they can enjoy swimming without the help of staff. I took several pictures of them swimming happily by the pool, and I couldn't help but admire: love can give them such a powerful force, allowing them to break through their own limitations and continue to work hard. One day later, in "Welcoming the Asian Para Games, Hangzhou is ready!" 》This group of photos occupies a larger space in the manuscript published under the title.
