He didn't get wet in the rain, but he also held an umbrella for others
Jimu News: You have worked with Mr. Andy Lau many times, but this is the first time that he will serve as the producer. movie of. He described himself as an "irritatingly strict" producer. Did you feel this strictness on set?
Lin Jiadong: I think should be strict. He has not changed in the past ten years and has always been this character. It was he who came up with the concept and story of "Stealth". As the producer, he also hoped to explore the different possibilities of each actor, so every time he would say: "Let's do another one? Can you try this?" If it's an inexperienced actor, it might be a little harder, but I know his character very well, so I can handle it.
Jimu News: You have also worked as a producer and have helped many young people in the film industry. What kind of newcomer can impress Lin Jiadong?
Lin Jiadong: I think hard work is definitely needed for . I believe that in every industry, we have to work hard. Then you have to see if the person has any ideas, even if they are wrong, because even if you use wrong ideas to act, someone will naturally help you adjust and change them, so that you can slowly absorb them. But if you don’t have your own ideas, I think you have no soul.

Jimu News: Are you keen on helping newcomers? Is it because when you were a newcomer, you received a lot of help from your seniors?
Lin Jiadong: definitely has this idea. I came from the TV station to the film industry. Mr. Andy Lau, Mr. Wan Ziliang, Mr. Johnnie To... they all helped me, made me mature, and allowed me to change my blind spots. So if I have a little chance now, I will give it to you (newcomers) so that you can perform better and more excitingly.
Being an actor is not about making money
Jimu News: I watched the behind-the-scenes of "Stealth". You arrived at the set at six or seven o'clock every morning, and you had to sit on the set regardless of whether your role was involved or not. Why?
Lin Jiadong: Because the movie is a whole, even if your role is not there, it cannot be without your feeling, because the roles played by other actors will affect how you cooperate in the next scene. For example, Peng Yuyan said in the play that Lin Jiadong is like this. OK, then I will make some adjustments to the characteristics of the next scene to match what he said. When we read the script, we can’t just read our own, we have to read the whole one. What others say and what I say must be clearly understood in order to cooperate with each other. For example, Dongguan Zai (the character played by Jiadong Lam in the movie "Underworld 2: Peace Is Precious"), the seniors described him as very arrogant, so I wanted to show how arrogant he is.If I didn't know they had this scene and said this line, how could I match this line of dialogue? I have to know: Oh, this is what others say about Dongguan Zai... Then I have to cooperate with him to achieve the current effect.

Jimu News: When many movie fans talk about Lin Jiadong, they will have a consensus: this is an actor who wants to be an artist. At what point in your life did you realize that acting was your lifelong career, not a job to make money?
Lin Jiadong: I think it was when I was at the TV station (tvb). At that time, many different types of TV series were filmed. They might be more popular, so they would copy them. The second and third episodes were the same. I slowly started to feel a little confused, why is this happening? I was scared because I didn't want to think of it as a job. I'm very excited about being in front of the camera. I'm very excited about acting with my opponents and playing various roles. But if I keep copying my past performances again and again, I find it very hard. I don't want to do it again. Perform in that state.
In fact, you don’t know how much money a person can make. I don’t want to act just to make money. I hope to prove my ideas and the value of my existence through performances. Later, I left when it was at its peak. I wanted to give it a try in the film industry and see if there could be another state, another Lin Jiadong.
Jimu News: When gave up everything when it was most popular, did you have any hesitation at that time?
Lin Jiadong: without hesitation. In fact, in 1994, a director wanted me to make movies, but I felt that (experience) was not enough, so I wanted to make more complex dramas and slowly accumulate my experience. By the year 2000, I felt really tired. As you just said, I felt like I was "working". I still remember that I lay in bed all day and thought to myself: Am I just filming to make money? This makes me feel unsatisfied. My heart is very tired and scared. What should I do? I told myself that I had to leave this place. But at that time, I had just signed the contract, and there were still more than 100 episodes to be filmed, so I finished filming all 100 episodes in a year, and then I said I didn’t want to film any more and left.

Jimu News: You just said that you are very excited when you are in front of the camera, but everyone knows that Lin Jiadong is an i person. We are very curious, how can an introverted and socially anxious person completely release himself in front of the camera?
Lin Jiadong: I am not very active in real life, but I like to observe very much. I observe every day what our life is like and what each person is like. I like to hide in a corner and watch. Listen, and then slowly connect them together, you can connect a character together, and then show it to you through the camera. This is the most exciting mood for me.
I remember this was already the case before I entered the TV station. At around 6 o'clock in the morning, I was sitting on the subway watching people. This person was wearing such clothes. What occupation might he have? His mental state was not very good, he probably didn't sleep well. He went to work so early, so he probably didn't work in an office. …It’s a wonderful feeling to slowly understand it like this, think about it every day, and enrich your inner thoughts. But when I'm outside the camera, I'm not very...
Jimu News: So every time you go out to promote a movie and interact with the audience, do you feel a lot of pressure, more pressure than acting?
Lin Jiadong: is bigger, for sure.
Jimu News: So when an audience asked to see you perform the "Dongguan Tsai Hurdle" (a famous scene in the movie "Underworld 2: Peace Is Precious"), you were also very stressed.
Lin Jiadong: , definitely, definitely. In fact, many friends have said to me: Why don’t you do hurdles? Because I feel that that scene was given to me by Director Johnnie To and I must keep it. I don’t want to ruin it by doing it again now.I have to preserve the best aspect of it so that the audience and the director can remember it.
and boss Andy Lau issued a "military order"
Jimu News: You have been in the industry for more than 30 years, and there are many memorable moments. For example, it was the first time I played a role with lines, the first time I was the leading actor, the first time I won the Best Actor Award, and the first time I was a producer and I won the Best Film Award. Which node has the greatest impact on you?
Lin Jiadong: When won the Best Film Award ("The Ring" produced by Lin Jiadong won the Academy Award for Best Film in 2011), it had the greatest impact on me. Because of my own performance, you may like it or not, it’s normal. But for a "best movie", I take care of everything from the story to the actors, including the photographer and color corrector. Telling everyone a story through this work is the greatest satisfaction.
Especially at that time, the Hong Kong film industry was not very prosperous. Older actors had fewer opportunities, and new actors also had few opportunities. Why is it broken? Some investors said: Oh, we gave newcomers a chance, but what should we do if they don’t sell?
understand, I understand completely, very clearly. But I watched a lot of movies and found older actors and asked them to act and say a line of dialogue. I thought, why is it such a waste? Their experience can help many young actors. I don’t want this to be the case. So I told Mr. Andy Lau (the boss of Lam Jiadong’s contract company at the time): I must be the producer of this work! do not worry! I definitely did it! I can!
Jimu News: Therefore, "Battle Arena" hired many senior "old actors".
Lin Jiadong: I want to tell many film companies and the audience that movies can be like this, with young and new ones, as well as older and old ones, blended together, so I have to make this movie. (Winning the award) At that time, it was the greatest satisfaction and the greatest challenge for me. Later I supervised other movies and it was the same. It had to have older actors and give them heavier roles. Also, I hope to use my own experience and perspective to see if I can help these actors make some changes. I believe that being an actor should have many possibilities and constant changes.
Jimu News: I heard that you particularly like listening to music and pay close attention to the lyrics. Can you share one of your recent favorites?
Lin Jiadong: I still like Chen Baiqiang very much, and I like his song "Blast" (asking the wild wind how many long roads it has to travel before it can see the ideal city, how many waves and wasteland it has to travel through, until it can stop with a smile, The wind doesn't care about the beginning or the end, it only knows how to rush forward). After so many years, I still listen to this song in the car, and I always think of a picture: there is a child on a grassland, the wind is blowing, he runs forward, not knowing where the end is, but he also has to Keep running.
I am the same now. I hope to keep rushing forward. I can’t see what will happen ahead, but I can’t stop. I hope there is a bigger world ahead, but I don’t know what the result will be. There are many problems in everyone's life. We have to face them eventually, and we still have to move forward. There is no use stopping. We can't blame others. Don't stand still and look back. If we can't do this, we should move forward.
