Both volume indicators hit record highs, and for the first time, international cargo volume exceeded domestic cargo volume in a single month.
Data shows that as of November, more than 3,600 tons of imported fruits such as cherries and prunes have entered the country through the Chengdu aviation port, and more than 3,200 tons of imported chilled salmon have entered the country. Recently, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport’s qualifications for designated supervision sites for four categories of inbound fruits and chilled aquatic products have been approved.
Since the first batch of 120 tons of imported prunes arrived in Chengdu from Sao Paulo, Brazil, on February 9 this year, the Chengdu air port has resumed the entry of imported fruits. As of the end of November, a total of 3,640 tons of cherries, prunes and other fruits have been imported.
Immediately afterwards, Chengdu Air Port resumed the import of edible aquatic animals on February 18 this year. As of the end of November, Chengdu Aviation Port had imported a total of 693.89 tons of Boston lobsters, white shrimps, sea crabs, eels and other edible aquatic animals.
Subsequently, on March 14, the first batch of chilled salmon weighing 18.5 tons flew from Brussels to Chengdu. The Chengdu aviation port resumed salmon imports after three years. As of the end of November, Chengdu Aviation Port had imported a total of 3,206.78 tons of chilled salmon.
International flights have crossed the ocean one after another, connecting overseas production areas and domestic dining tables, allowing imported fresh goods to fly into the homes of ordinary people. Zhang Jinyang, a customs declarer at Jinghong International Logistics Chengdu Company, said that the timeliness of the circulation of imported fresh goods is very critical. The reason why the company chose to enter through the Chengdu air port is because Chengdu has abundant international routes and high customs clearance efficiency, which can ensure the timeliness of the entry and circulation of fresh goods. It reduces import operating costs and is also welcomed by the market because the goods are fresher.
According to data released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, in November this year, the entire civil aviation industry completed 719,000 tons of cargo and mail transportation, returning to 102.8% of the same period in 2019. It has exceeded the pre-epidemic level for 4 consecutive months, and the scale has reached a record high. Among them, international routes completed cargo and mail transportation volume of 2.50 million tons, reaching 113.7% of the same period in 2019.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China believes that the rapid recovery in air cargo and mail transportation volume is mainly due to the economic recovery and the strong demand for air cargo driven by domestic "Double Eleven", foreign shopping festivals and other promotional activities.
Recently, a reporter discovered a new change during an interview at the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport International Cargo Terminal: In the past, outbound international cargo usually only started arriving at three or four in the afternoon, but now the international cargo station is full of outbound cargo in the morning, with several units Roaring forklifts run back and forth, and the goods are packed and forklifted onto pallets, always ready to get on the plane.
Data show that in November this year, the total cargo volume in and out of the two ports in Chengdu was 33,000 tons, of which the international inbound and outbound cargo volume reached 17,000 tons. Both volume indicators hit new highs, and it was also the first time in history that international cargo volume entered and exited the port in a single month. The volume exceeds the domestic volume. Among them, on November 27, the Shuangliu Airport Cargo Terminal received 33,035 international outbound shipments and 593 tons, setting a new high for the number of international shipments received and the peak volume of goods in a single day.
It is worth mentioning that after the official opening of the Chengdu Tianfu International Airport port, the inbound and outbound international cargo volume and transshipment volume of the Tianfu Airport cargo terminal have gradually increased. As of the end of November, the Tianfu Airport Cargo Terminal has completed more than 7,000 tons of international cargo in and out of the port, and the transit cargo volume is about 2,000 tons.
According to statistics, in the first 11 months of this year, Chengdu International Aviation Hub completed a cumulative cargo and mail throughput of 695,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 24.2% and an increase of 14.1% compared with the same period in 2019.
The rapid growth of air cargo volume reflects the improvement of the energy level of Chengdu International Aviation Hub. At the beginning of this month, the General Administration of Customs released the latest list of designated supervision sites. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport was approved for four categories of designated supervision sites at one time: imported fruits, plant seedlings, edible aquatic animals and chilled aquatic products. This marks the further improvement of the function of Chengdu’s aviation port, which will promote the more efficient and coordinated development of Chengdu Tianfu and Chengdu Shuangliu. The advantages of Chengdu’s west-to-south gateway hub will also become more prominent.
