Avatar 2 has a scrapped story? Why Cameron abandoned the original 130-page script

"Avatar" became the highest-grossing film of all time thanks in large part to its groundbreaking visuals, a title that remains to this day after numerous re-releases. As a result of this incredible success, Cameron began developing many sequels, the first of which, Avatar 2, will soon meet us. James Cameron and his team had to develop new performance capture technology again before filming, so the gap between the two films was more than 10 years. For a short time, James Cameron even dropped some script content in "Avatar 2".

In an interview with Total Film, James Cameron revealed more details about his scrapped Avatar 2 script. Originally, the script was titled Avatar: Highlands. Cameron and his writing team, actually finished the 130-page script, but decided to drop it because it wasn't good enough. However, its idea was adapted into an Avatar sequel and a series of graphic novels.

James Cameron said: "We found a way to reorganize the elements, distribute them in the first two sequels, and re-release them in a completely different way. There are some great Stuff. I mean, you got nam guys fighting with bows and arrows in zero gravity. I mean, I wanted to see that movie. But it didn't quite hit the overall story and thematic goals I expected. So we're going to Turn it into a graphic novel. You can see the transitional battle that happens between the first and the second."

While the script for Avatar: Highlands was scrapped, it wasn't fully creative forget. As James Cameron said, the original script for "Avatar 2" was adapted into a graphic novel. At present, the "Avatar 2" we see is a new story. It's worth mentioning that the original "Avatar 2: Highlands" graphic novel recounted a battle between the first two films in which humans returned to the planet Pandora with a fully armed fleet of starships, Jack and his Wives not only have to defend Pandora, but also those around them.

Of course, some of the ideas from "Avatar: Highlands" have also been adapted into "Avatar 3". Although the original script of "Avatar 2" and some plots were scrapped, these scrapped stories clearly brought some benefits to James Cameron and his writing team. Because the idea of the movie was not only added to the sequel to "Avatar", but also expanded the series in the form of a graphic novel.
