"The Last Survivor" live-action heroine: The crew encouraged me not to play the original game

HBO's "The Last of Us" live-action series will launch in 2023. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie on the show, recently said she didn't actually play the original game, and the crew encouraged her to keep it that way.

In an interview with USA TODAY, Bella Ramsey was asked if she had played the original The Last of Us game before. She responded:

I was actually encouraged not to play the original game. After my first audition, the crew asked me if I had played The Last of Us, I said no, and they told me to "keep it that way." I did watch some videos on YouTube just to get a feel for the work.

Previously, Pedro Pascal, who played Joel in this play, also said that in order to avoid his performance becoming a pure imitation of the game character, he also did not play the game.

The "Last Survivor" live-action drama is adapted from the first generation of the game and will add new characters and plots. The 10-episode series is written by Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin and game producer Neil Druckman.
