This year's film festival is hosted by the German Film Association and co-organized by the German Cultural Center in Beijing·Goethe Institute (China) and Broadway Studios. Wang Xuebing became the Chinese Ambassador of the Film Festival. Director Zhang Mingliang talked about activities after the opening film.


The opening film of this year's film is "Wentini" which won the best actress at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2020. "We are very honored to bring this film to everyone. The film combines mythology and history with a fascinating love story." Simone Bowman, general manager of the German Film Association, introduced. In addition, Ms. An Ke, the Chinese representative of the German Film Association, and Dr. Corrie, Dean of the Goethe Institute, delivered speeches respectively. Dr. Corrie said that although the epidemic has had a huge impact on world films, the original intention of holding the German Film Festival remains unchanged.

Actor Wang Xuebing served as the Chinese publicity ambassador for the German Film Festival. Speaking of his fate with German cinema, he said: “When I was in school at the Central Academy of Drama, I watched almost all films directed by Fassbinder. "Windini" is the latest film directed by director Christian Petzold, which puts the medieval legend of water elves in the present. In the post-screening talk, director Zhang Ming said that he hadn't seen a film combining mythology and real life for a long time. He believes that the film is not only a love story, but also a reflection on Berlin's history and reconstruction after World War II.



Speaking of his impression of Germany, Zhang Ming recalled that he had read film information, scripts and review articles in publications. He believes that it is a remarkable thing that German films can maintain the uniqueness of films even when they are so common in Hollywood. Therefore, it has not reached the peak of the New German Film Movement in the 70s and 80s, but it still remains unique. Sex and so vitality, this is where Chinese movies should refer.
