When is the best time for children to learn to swim? National first class swimmer tells you

In today's continuous development of society, the social competition faced by children is unparalleled in the past. In order to let the children "win at the starting line", Bao parents and mothers also broke their hearts. As a result, the winter and summer vacations that the students had been thinking about in the past have also become an excellent opportunity for parents and teachers to "overtake on a curve". Often, all kinds of interest classes, winter and summer camps are ready before the children are off. In addition to popular training programs such as Olympiad Mathematical Olympiad, piano, chess, calligraphy and painting, there is another skill that is valued by parents, that is swimming.

Swimming, as a sport that can strengthen the body and save others at critical moments, is indeed worthy of vigorous promotion. So we see that when summer comes, the business of various swimming classes is very hot. However, all kinds of problems about children learning to swim have made many parents difficult. For example, at what age is the most suitable child to learn to swim? Which swimming style should I learn? What should I do if I learn this year and forget it next year?

is a swimming teacher from Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Experimental School. Su Yi is a national first-level swimmer and intermediate coach. With 17 years of teaching experience, he has coached several swimmers.

Teacher Su Yi can answer all the questions mentioned above from a more professional point of view. Come and have a look!

Regarding the age of children learning to swim, some parents believe that the sooner the better, and even enroll their children in swimming classes at the age of four or five. In fact, this concept is biased. Younger has the advantage of flexibility, but the attention is not strong enough, and some difficult movements may not be understood, so it is too early to learn to swim at the age of four or five, and the age of seven or eight is a more appropriate age, because children at this time, Flexibility and coordination are better, and they can concentrate and understand movements better.

So which swimming style should the child learn first? Teacher Su Yi believes that there are pros and cons for which stroke to learn first. Generally speaking, breaststroke is the first to learn in China. The characteristic of breaststroke is that the movements of the legs are more complicated. There are four decomposing movements, but the breathing method of breaststroke is very simple. Freestyle swimming is the opposite. The leg movements are simple bending and kicking, but it is quite difficult to breathe. Teacher Su Yi pointed out that in fact, foreign coaches pay special attention to the cultivation of children's interest in swimming and the "feel of water". Because many children have feelings of resistance and fear at the beginning of learning to swim, it is also a good way to let the children play in the water and wait until they are not afraid of the water and like the swimming pool before starting to teach basic movements. So, it doesn’t really matter which swimming style to learn first, it’s more important to let children like water and cultivate a sense of water.

As for some children, "learning this year and forgetting next year" often occurs. Teacher Su Yi also gave an answer. At present, most of the summer swimming classes are "large class teaching" or "fast teaching". The teaching for each child is not very targeted, and a training period is about 15 lessons, which means that the child must be in a short time Master all the technical movements, so the amount of training is actually not enough. If you can swim twenty or thirty times, you can basically form an unforgettable muscle memory. Moreover, after the training, you must often practice in the water to consolidate your memory!

Swimming can not only enhance the children's cardiorespiratory function, but also help to sharpen endurance and willpower. It is a great sport, but learning to swim for children must be a scientific and gradual process. Moms must not be anxious!
