In the novel, Duan Zhengchun is the Southern King of the Dali State and is highly regarded by Emperor Baoding (Duan Zhengming). However, although others are passionate, but infatuated, and eventually die for love, they are the well-deserved love saints among the characters in Jin Yong's novels.
In the real history of Dali, there is also the character Duan Zhengchun.
Duan Zhengchun is the brother of Duan Zhengming, Emperor Baoding of the Dali Kingdom. Duan Zhengming gave Gao Shengtai the retreat for a few years and became a monk by himself. Gao Sheng Taili Daxingguo (Greater China), before his death, asked his descendants to return the throne to the Duan family, namely Duan Zhengchun, and asked the descendants of the Gao family to "forever be good officials of the Duan family".
said that Duan Zhengchun, like many emperors and nobles in ancient times, had a vision before he was born. Before he was born, his mother dreamed that a white crane flew into her arms, and the next day she gave birth to Duan Zhengchun.
Duan Zhengchun is very good at martial arts. His wife is Gao Shengjie, the younger sister of the prime minister at the time, Gao Shengtai, and she is also a talented woman. The couple likes to argue with each other. Duan Zhengchun gives in to his wife every time they argue.
When Duan Zhengchun was 22 years old, he wrote a poem to praise his wife: "The state-owned woman has a sweet wife. A husband is not as good as a wife, and it is a good thing. His wife told me to go east to the west, to talk sweetly to the east, and to compete against the west. Husband. Born to be incompetent, it is difficult to compare with a sweet wife."
Gao Shengtai gained the throne of Baoding Emperor Duan Zhengming, and died of illness after only two years in the reign. Before his death, he returned the throne to Duan Zhengchun, who built the post-Dali Kingdom (Hou Liguo).
Duan Zhengchun ascended the throne, amnesty the world, built the city of Chuxiong, and sent people to the Song Dynasty to seek the history and pharmacopoeia. In addition to presenting the classics of Dali, Song Huizong also sent four scholars to Dali to give lectures and built a Confucian Temple to teach the ancient Han court music and dance Liuyi dance. The Liuyi Dance refers to six rows and six columns with a total of 36 people. It was used to worship princes and prime ministers. Since Confucius was once named Wenxuan King, Song Huizong ordered college students to teach Dali to use this dance to worship Confucius.
Just a few years after Duan Zhengchun became the emperor, a comet in Dali landed and meteors rained. The plague from Baoshan spread to Kunming, the eastern capital. In more than half a year, nearly 30% of the domestic people died. There were heavy rains that year, many floods, crop failures, wealthy wolves all around, and a lot of people were eaten.
Therefore, the people in China began to talk about their king, even Duan Zhengchun, who also believed that his own bad faith caused the life to be charred, very panic, and decided to abdicate and give way to his son Duan Heyu (Duan Yu). After
abdicated, Duan Zhengchun worshipped Master Miao Zhan as his master and received the bhikkhu ordination. The commandment said: "Hexiang fly a little bit of the sky, return to my Xumi Mountain. Jump out of the reincarnation path, purely cultivate empty space to participate in meditation."
Duan Zhengchun is named Master Xiu Kong. After he became a monk, he went to Jizu Mountain, Binchuan, Dali, to build Longtan Temple and acted as the host himself. He also took more than forty ministers and guards to Jizu Mountain and became a monk at Longtan Temple.
Since then, Longtan Temple has experienced many damages, and later generations restored it. It is Xitan Temple. It is now known that Tan Temple has been destroyed, and only the ruins and Longtan remain.

In the historical documents of Dali, it is not mentioned that Duan Zhengchun has multiple lovers. In fact, he was the king of a country. In that era, it was normal to marry a few concubines.
Jin Yong played a big role in the novel, writing that he was merciful everywhere, and finally died for love. Even the plot of Duan Zhengchun as the king of Dali was ignored by Jin Yong; even the fictional Duan Yu is not Duan Zhengchun's own son. The plot, obviously the novelist's words, is just to enhance readability, but the authenticity is zero.
In other words, in the story about Duan Zhengchun in Jin Yong's novels, only the three words "Duan Zhengchun" are true, and the rest of the plots are all fictitious, not to be believed! Duan Zhengchun, the saint of love, exists in Jin Yong's novels; and the real Duan Zhengchun in history is a flesh and blood king, a monk who is willing to abandon the throne to become a monk!
