Tracing the Footsteps of Movies-China Film Museum

China Film Museum is a large-scale public cultural facility approved by the State Council and jointly constructed by the former State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government. It is currently the world’s largest national film museum and a landmark to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Chinese film. The building is an art palace that showcases the development history of Chinese films, exposing film technology, disseminating film culture, and conducting academic research exchanges. It is a patriotism education base, a clean government education base, a youth film culture activity base, and a science education base.

China Film Museum covers an area of ​​52 acres, with a construction area of ​​nearly 38,000 square meters. It was completed on December 29, 2005 and officially opened to the public on February 10, 2007.

The China Film Museum has 21 exhibition halls and external public activities and exhibition areas. The total exhibition area is about 13,000 square meters. The first floor is a large-scale theme exhibition celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, "Light and Shadow Expressing Chapter: Struggle for a New Era", which fully demonstrates the glorious history of Chinese film and the brilliant achievements of entering the new era since the founding of New China 70 years ago. The second to fourth floors are the exhibition "A Hundred Years of History and Century Glory", which showcases the development of Chinese film in the past century, exhibits the development of films in different periods and stages and the important artistic achievements of film workers, revealing the mystery of film production. There are also 6 cinemas in the museum, including a giant screen hall, which can accommodate more than 1,000 people at the same time.

China Film Museum is designed by RTKL of the United States and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design and Research; in front of the main building, the huge screen and the intermittent sloping wall on the square form a plane combination like a "branch board"; Black is used as the basic color, and the metal plate with a hollow pattern is used as the outer decoration, covering this light and shadow art palace with a mysterious veil. It is more unique and full of charm under the background of night lights.
