Peninsula reporter Huang Jingfei

On November 20th, the film "The Whistleblower" directed by Xue Xiaolu and starring Lei Jiayin and Tang Wei was held at the 28th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival. Prior to this, Xue Xiaolu appeared at the opening forum of "Light and Shadow China" and discussed with the guests the upgrade and development of Chinese films in the new era. As one of the outstanding female directors in the Chinese film industry, Xue Xiaolu has directed "Beijing Meets Seattle" and "Ocean Paradise". Classic films such as "My Motherland and Me", this time her new work "The Whistleblower" has a special premiere at the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival. In an interview with reporters, Xue Xiaolu also shared the unforgettable moments before and behind the film.

The two roles are each other's "whistleblower"

reporter: I am curious what is a whistleblower?

Xue Xiaolu: Whistleblower is like a referee on the football field. There is a group of people who hide their names, expose the internal truth, save thousands of lives without being known, and face long threats of revenge. The worldwide attention to the "whistleblower" group and the exploration of the "whistleblower" system have never stopped. As early as 1989, the United States enacted the world's first "Whistleblower Protection Act" to protect "whistleblowers". After the film premiered, an audience member said a particularly good concept: the whistleblower is definitely not a whistleblower, and the choice made by the whistleblower is entirely out of social welfare and safeguarding social security. The whistleblower is very lonely because he faces great danger and pressure when he blows the whistle. Reporter: What is the story of The Whistleblower?

Xue Xiaolu: The movie opened with an accidental air crash. A seemingly "ordinary" cross-border transaction made the insider Ma Ke (played by Lei Jiayin) gradually aware of the strangeness. . At this time, the mysterious woman Zhou Wen (played by Tang Wei) suddenly appeared. Among the fragmented clues, a huge commercial conspiracy involving the lives of millions of people gradually surfaced.

Reporter: In the roles played by Lei Jiayin and Tang Wei, who is the whistleblower?

Xue Xiaolu: The two of them are "whistleblowers" each other, and they both made very brave and positive choices during the journey.

was touched by a real case in the interview

Reporter: When did you want to film the whistleblower story?

Xue Xiaolu: This story is relatively early. The earliest news report of "overseas bribery" in 2009 touched me. In 2013, I went to Washington to interview some investigative companies. Many cases made me cry. I believe that many major social events that everyone knows can be revealed to the world. The reason why many highly confidential things can be exposed is also because the company has "whistle blowers", so at that time overseas bribes and "whistle blowers" The two concepts are combined, but the story has never been smooth, and has not been written. It was not until 2016 and 2017 that the script creation began, which is probably such a process. The shooting process is still very exciting, although there are many emotional stories, but the same type is more action and suspense.

Reporter: What is the difference between this movie and the previous works?

Xue Xiaolu: You can see from the trailer that some elements are rarely seen in the previous works. For example, "Ocean Paradise" and "Beijing Meets Seattle" are all about expressing emotions, while "The Whistleblower" challenges a lot of difficult, high-tech, and high-special effects. I want to make a crime suspense theme, which is relatively heavy. The story of the plot involves a lot of action scenes. I am also fortunate to cooperate with a very good foreign creative team. There are many shooting skills that have not been encountered before, and there are also many dangers. There was a scene of a car crash in which two cars were crashed in a real environment. There were also many dangerous situations that required two actors to face. In addition to the shooting skills, I also feel very distressed for the two actors. I often see them running in the wild with their hairs disheveled.

Tang Wei has a sharp edge and a story

Reporter: Why did you choose Tang Wei and Lei Jiayin to partner? Do they have a sense of CP?

Xue Xiaolu: Before, Tang Wei and I made two films "Beijing Meets Seattle", this time it is a third-degree collaboration. Tang Wei once said that she didn't expect that my play made her dream of making an action movie come true. Lei Jiayin is the actor that Tang Wei wants to cooperate with. Tang Wei has sharp eyes and stories in his eyes, and Lei Jiayin gives the character a unique temperament. Reporter

: How do you interpret the "whistleblower" in the film?

Xue Xiaolu: I tried to make a good-looking film with positive energy. Therefore, I did not avoid the flaws in life and human nature. I think it is positive. It is because of flaws that talents become people, so talents are great. I don't want to shoot a hero, I just want to shoot the story of ordinary people, because Ma Ke may be ordinary people around you and me. They will also have fears and worries, but in the face of selfishness and morality, they still make choices and bravely come forward. . I hope that the audience will not only be very happy and enjoy this journey when watching this movie, but also see the hero's spirit of upholding justice and fear of sacrifice, and a great sense of social responsibility. Based on real life, being close to the current society, depicting the moving arc of human nature in the dark, has always been my creative direction.
