Change face 5 million! Artist reveals behind-the-scenes details of "Sonic the Hedgehog" plastic surgery!

The image of Sonic in the live-action movie "Sonic the Hedgehog" was finally recognized by netizens after being "too ugly". Recently, Argentine animator Max Schneider, who participated in the design of the old and new Sonic, revealed a lot of interesting anecdotes behind the image remodeling in an interview. The new Sonic design of

took a total of 5 months, because before that they had done almost the entire movie with the old design.

Paramount Pictures initially fully supported the old version of the design because they wanted to make Sonic look closer to reality and better match the real-life scenes, similar to "Teenage Ninja Turtles" and "Transformers" movies. They are confident that even if fans express dissatisfaction, ordinary viewers will be able to accept it, so Paramount decided to do it all the way. After the trailer was released, the overwhelming negative feedback from the public across the network finally sounded the alarm for them.

Paramount and Sega USA had a large-scale meeting and decided to perform "plastic" surgery on Sonic. Max also hammered in the rework cost of 5 million US dollars, which is the closest to the actual cost, rather than the 35 million ultra-high expenditure reported by the network.

In the current movie version, there are some materials that are reused in the original version, but most of them are remade. The animator also pointed out that the design team and the animation team are completely separate and independent of each other, so the animator only listens to the producer and the director, and has no say in the design process.

live-action CG movie "Sonic the Hedgehog" will be released in North America on February 14, 2020.
