The play tells the story of how the Communist Party of China, democratic parties and patriotic democrats from all walks of life overcame all difficulties to convene the first National Political Consultative Conference from 1948 to 1949 to jointly build a new China.

The play delicately expresses the journey of democrats such as Soong Ching Ling, Li Jishen , Zhang Lan, Fu Zuoyi, etc., inspired by the patriotic and democratic united front, from hesitating, waiting and watching, to being convinced and firmly following the Communist Party of China to build a new China. In addition, it also shows the stories of a group of patriotic democrats participating in the CPPCC such as Tian Han, Fu Dingyi, Liang Sicheng, Qian Sanqiang, Mao Yisheng, Chen Shaokuan.
