On November 5, "A Centenary Walk - Mianrenlang Mian Sculpture Art Exhibition" was held at the Zizhuyuan Palace. This became the first exhibition after the Zizhuyuan Palace was renovated and reopened.
A reporter from Beijing Youth Daily learned that the Zizhuyuan Palace is located on the northwest side of Zizhuyuan Park. It was built in the fifth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1577). It was originally the lower courtyard of Wanshou Temple in the Ming Dynasty. The place to stay in Suzhou Street. In 2012, Zizhuyuan Park completed the renovation of the palace and surrounding courtyards, and was officially opened to tourists in August 2014. It has become an important cultural display venue for cultural exhibitions and related activities in the park. It has successively held the Changhe·Zizhuyuan Historical and Cultural Exhibition, There are more than 20 themed exhibitions on porcelain, calligraphy, painting, jade carving, folk customs, and intangible cultural heritage art.
From 2023 to 2024, Zizhuyuan Park will carry out protective renovations on the palace. It is reported that this renovation mainly targets 35 buildings in the palace, Zen monastery and surrounding courtyards, focusing on the maintenance of roofs and oil decorations, including building tiles, roof cleaning, and dust removal of upper and lower oil decorations and paintings.
The core content of this renovation is to solve problems such as roof leakage and cracks in oil-finished floor coverings caused by dry shrinkage cracks in wooden components. During the renovation, the roof was repaired, the decayed rafter beams were replaced, the mud roof was redone, and the tiles were re-laid. At the same time, the building floor oil decoration was redone according to the traditional "one hemp and five ash" technology, which involved cutting wood, setting bamboo nails, catching ash, clearing ash, making hemp, pressing hemp ash, medium ash, fine ash, etc. After three steps, the building wooden components are then oil-decorated or painted to ensure that the building components have an accurate, complete appearance, are strong and durable, to the greatest extent possible. At present, the overall protective repair work has been completed, and Fuyin Zizhuyuan has been reopened to the public.
With the opening of the palace courtyard, the "Century Walk - Mian Ren Lang Mian Sculpture Art Exhibition" was unveiled simultaneously. A reporter from Beiqing Daily learned that this exhibition is a national intangible cultural heritage display of the original dough sculptures of Beijing’s “Mianrenlang” family. The works span nearly a hundred years, ranging from the depiction of the life style of the people in the early last century to the presentation of New China. From the glory of the "golden age" of handicraft industry after the establishment, to the reflection and emotional expression of the changes in modern society. The exhibition connects works from different periods to sort out the changes and inheritance of face sculpture creation techniques, and jointly explores the influence and promotion of face sculpture on traditional Chinese art in the evolution of cultural context over the past century.
In addition, Zizhuyuan Palace, as one of the exhibition areas of the second chrysanthemum exhibition in Zizhuyuan Park, is also a good place for citizens and tourists to watch chrysanthemums. The brightly colored chrysanthemums complement the ancient buildings, showing their classical beauty.
