As early as 2019, when he was only 22 years old, Zhang Weijie signed up for the 2019 CBA draft, but unfortunately he failed to be selected and missed the opportunity to land in the CBA, and he basically disappeared from people's sight.
Now, five years later, Zhang Weijie is 27 years old. He joined the Canadian BSL top basketball league this year and played for the Delta Admirals. When the Delta Admirals defeated the Montreal Tundra, Zhang Weijie started the game and contributed 7 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists, making history by becoming the first Chinese basketball player to land in Canada's top basketball league and start the game.
From being undrafted in the CBA to landing in Canada's top basketball league and becoming a starting player, Zhang Weijie's basketball dream pursuit journey has continued. As a player with a height of only 1.83 meters, Zhang Weijie studied at San Diego Christian University in college. He averaged only 1.3 points per game in the 2018-19 season.
After losing to the CBA, Zhang Weijie also played for the Hainan Walrus in China's nbl league . He played 17 games in the 2020-21 season, averaging 2.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2 assists in 19.1 minutes per game.
Although Zhang Weijie was not selected in the CBA and his performance in the NBL was not satisfactory, he can continue to pursue his basketball dream and continue to compete in Canada's top basketball league. We also hope that he will continue to improve and realize his dream.
