It’s so fierce, it feels like it’s almost cooked!
Yesterday (September 1), there were quite a few places in Zhejiang Province with 38℃ or even 39℃+.
The provincial capital Hangzhou ushered in its 54th high temperature day this year. The maximum temperature of 38.8℃ not only broke the record for September, but was also the hottest school start day in history (September 1), surpassing the second-ranked 37.8℃ (2021 ).

However, this year’s high temperature shows no sign of ending. The Hangzhou Meteorological Observatory said that based on the current weather situation, not only the number of high temperature days in September this year in Hangzhou may hit a record, but the total number of high temperatures in the year may also hit a new record.
The Hangzhou Meteorological Observatory explained that the main reason is that the subtropical high is still very strong. The current scope of the subtropical high covers most of my country, from the South China Sea to East China, Central China, North China, Southwest, and Northwest China. The central sphere of influence of the subtropical high covers East China, Central China, and Jiangnan.
Judging from the position of the subtropical high pressure, throughout early September, the high pressure center has been moving in the northwest and northerly areas hundreds of kilometers away from Hangzhou. Under such weather conditions, even the high temperature of 35℃ cannot be reached in Hangzhou. line, it won’t be too far from this number.
Therefore, although this year's No. 11 typhoon "Capricorn" is about to emerge, the subtropical high pressure is too strong and blocks the typhoon's path to the north like a high-pressure dam. The typhoon is not strong enough to break through. The subtropical high pressure is blocked, so after the typhoon is generated, it will move along the edge of the subtropical high pressure, mainly moving westward, and coastal areas such as Guangdong and Fujian will be affected.
The easing of this wave of high temperatures may still require the help of typhoons. If one typhoon doesn't work, come with two. If two typhoons don't work, come with three. The Hangzhou Meteorological Observatory predicts that typhoons will form in clusters again in mid-September. The power of the subtropical high pressure may weaken, and the high temperature weather may significantly ease by then. In 2022, due to the impact of successive typhoons, there was only one high temperature day in September.

Looking at the whole province, it is no different from Hangzhou. The Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a high temperature report at 16:10 yesterday: Affected by the subtropical high pressure, the temperature in our province has been relatively high recently. It is expected that the daily maximum temperature in most parts of the province will reach 36-38℃ today, with some areas above 39℃.
Tomorrow, due to the influence of weak cold air, the high temperature will temporarily ease. However, due to the high humidity, it still feels a bit stuffy.
On the 4th and 5th, Zhejiang Province will be controlled by the subtropical high pressure, and the temperature "little rocket" will start again.
