Taiwan People’s Party Chairman Ke Wenzhe was involved in the Jinghua City scandal during his tenure as mayor of Taipei. The Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office deployed seven teams early on the 30th to search and interview Ke Wenzhe and others. It is understood that after Ke Wenzhe was transferred to the Beijing Prosecutor's Office for reinterrogation, on the 31st, he proposed to refuse the night interrogation and choked the prosecutor, "Please ask the prosecutor to arrest me in court." The prosecutor immediately held a meeting and decided to arrest Ke in court. Apply to the court for arraignment.
Zheng Shenyuan, the lawyer appointed by Ke Wenzhe, said that all day yesterday, the interrogation content between the ICAC and prosecutors focused on political donations, and the Jinghua City case had not yet been asked. However, because it was too late, Ke Wenzhe was unable to accept such an interrogation. Therefore, we advocated rejecting nighttime interrogation.
The Beijing Prosecutor’s Office said that during the prosecutor’s interrogation of Ke Wenzhe in the early morning of the 31st, the defendant expressed his unwillingness to continue to be interrogated and wanted to leave the investigation court. The prosecutor told Ke Wenzhe to rest first before being interrogated, but he still refused. It is considered that Ke Wenzhe's criminal suspicion of committing the crime of profiteering in Article 6, Paragraph 1, Paragraph 4 of the Corruption Crime Ordinance is serious, and there are sufficient facts to establish the possibility of colluding with accomplices and witnesses. If Ke Wenzhe is allowed to leave without completing the interrogation process, the risk of the case being obscured will rise sharply and it will hinder the purpose of the investigation. Therefore, the prosecutor ordered the arrest in court.
It is reported that Ke Wenzhe and his defender have stated that they have exercised their right to arraign the case and the process is currently in progress.
