According to a report on the Russia Today TV website on April 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently stated that young people are more suitable to serve as soldiers because they are healthy and can master new technologies more easily.
reported that Zelensky explained why he recently signed a law lowering the mobilization age from 27 to 25 in a conversation with French YouTube blogger Hugo Travert over the weekend. One of the reasons he gave was that young people are more adept at technology.
Zelensky talked about drones that are very visible on the battlefield. "This is a modern war. The new generation is picking up new technology much faster," he said.
Another reason he cited was that younger recruits can have an easier time than older recruits to cope with the physical demands of combat. The
report mentioned that as of February this year, the average age of Ukrainian frontline officers and soldiers was 43 years old, reflecting that Kiev mobilized mainly older men.
