The musical "A Date in This Life" mainly tells the story of a group of drama club students who separated like sparks and reunited 15 years later. They are "Haoru" (played by Huang Shengyi) and "Renjie" (played by Xu Hao) who love each other but never get together, "President" and "Zi Shan" who have been married for many years but have wasted their relationship in daily necessities. There are "Ah Hui" and "Miaomiao" who were once a couple of gods and are now going their separate ways... In order to complete the graduation work that they did not perform 15 years ago, they sang and danced on the stage to perform "Jane Eyre", "Secret Love", "Caesar and..." Classic love stories from all over the world, such as "Cleopella", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" and "The Phoenix Returns to the Nest", use "plays within plays" to express their respective emotions and find courage.
Huang Shengyi said that the performance, singing and dancing were very intense.
Talking about the reason for joining the musical this time, Huang Shengyi said that when rehearsing "Let Me Hold Your Hand..." two years ago, there was originally a dance, but later it was removed because it felt that it did not fit in with the whole. However, Lai Shengchuan and Ding Naizhu discovered Huang Shengyi's dancing talent. By chance, Ding Naizhu heard Huang Shengyi singing songs from her album and encouraged Huang Shengyi to develop in the direction of musicals. When he went to the theater to do the musical "A Date in This Life", he took the initiative to invite Huang Shengyi, and Huang Shengyi decided to give it a brave try. Huang Shengyi said: "Previous performances on the drama stage may have been more about expressing one's own feelings, and the music followed the rhythm of the actors. But in musicals, it requires actors to fully serve the play, and every node must be I have to perform to the beat without missing a beat, and because there are many scenes within a scene and the pace is fast, I need to quickly dress up on the stage. For this musical, I have 9 different sets of clothes and looks, and sing 18 original songs. The song, overall, is very intense in performance, singing and dancing.”
It is reported that “A Date in This Life” will be performed again at the Shanghai Theater from April 20th to 26th.
