According to information from Ma Shitu’s family, the famous writer Mr. Ma Shitu passed away on March 28 at the age of 110.
Upon learning of the death of Mr. Ma Shitu, the Chinese Writers Association expressed its deep condolences for the passing of Mr. Ma Shitu and expressed condolences to his family.
Ma Shitu, whose real name is Ma Qianmu, was born in Zhongxian County, Sichuan (now Zhongxian County, Chongqing). In 1935, he participated in the "December 9th" movement and engaged in revolutionary activities of the underground party of the Communist Party of China. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1938 and has been engaged in party organization work for a long time. In 1941, he studied in the Chinese Department of Southwest Associated University in Kunming and graduated in 1945. He has successively served as secretary of the Western Hubei Special Committee, deputy secretary of the Sichuan Kangxi Special Committee, director of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Construction, director of the Sichuan Provincial Construction Committee, secretary of the Party Committee of the Southwest Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, deputy director of the Southwest Bureau and the Propaganda Department of the Sichuan Provincial Committee, and deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress. Representative to the Sixth and Seventh National People's Congress, Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Writers' Association, director, consultant and honorary member of the Chinese Writers' Association, etc.
Mr. Ma Shitu began publishing works in 1935 and joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1961. He is the author of the novels "Qingjiang Zhuangge", "Ten Night Stories", "Bashu Female Heroes", "Ten Years in the Devil's Cave", "Ten Years of Vicissitudes", etc., the long documentary "Underground", and the novella "Three Wars in the Garden" and " Loyal Heart", short story collection "Looking for the Red Army", "Ma Shitu's Satirical Novels" and other works. Published "Collected Works of Ma Shitu" (12 volumes).
Mr. Ma Shitu, together with Ba Jin, Zhang Xiushu, Sha Ting and Ai Wu, are known as the "Five Elders of Sichuan". In the 1980s, Ma Shitu created "Ten Notes on Night Stories", which established the framework of "Sichuan people telling Sichuan stories in Sichuan dialect". The book is widely known for its "The Story of a Stealing Official", which was adapted into the movie "Let the Bullets Fly."
