The first national tour of China Disabled People's Art Troupe's large-scale situational audio-visual drama "Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes" successfully opened at the Century Theater in Beijing, attracting the attention of more than 3,000 audiences.
This stage art work was jointly created by the China Disabled People’s Art Troupe and Dunhuang Cultural Expo Investment Co., Ltd. This tour was hosted by Xiu Dong Interactive Entertainment (Beijing) Cultural Development Co., Ltd., and incorporated the Disabled People’s Art Troupe’s “My Dream” " and the elements of the "Avalokitesvara Sutra with Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes" in Dunhuang murals, showing a cultural feast with distinctive Dunhuang characteristics and profound humanistic sentiments.
"Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes" tells a folk story about "a wonderful kindness saves the father" through music, dance and multimedia. The story takes place at the desert border of Dunhuang. Miaoshan's father and his neighbors are troubled by a strange disease called "human facial sore". Miaoshan prayed to Guanyin for help, and went through many difficulties and tribulations. Finally, through courage, perseverance and wisdom, she found the crescent fish grass and the colorful peacock feathers, and exchanged her hands and eyes for the Thousand-Handed Thousand-Eyed Guanyin Dharma. Eventually, my father and fellow villagers recovered. This story demonstrates the spirit of bravery and self-challenge, and embodies the great love contained in Chinese civilization.
The play has been performed at the Dunhuang Grand Theater for 105 consecutive performances since 2023, with more than hundreds of thousands of viewers. The actors showed truth, kindness and beauty through their superb performances, and also showed the spirit of disabled actors who are fearless of difficulties and bravely pursue their dreams, which has been well received.
Next, "Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes" will tour across the country, including Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Hangzhou and Shanghai. In addition, the play will be performed at the Dunhuang Grand Theater from June to October this year.
The success of this work has also become a model for the integration and development of contemporary art and Dunhuang culture, giving Dunhuang culture a new spiritual connotation.
Through cooperation with the Disabled People’s Art Troupe, this stage work brings artistic enjoyment and spiritual shock to the audience. In future tours, I believe more audiences will feel the appeal and appeal brought by this unique artistic feast. (Photo provided by the organizer)
