In the Dingyuan County Public Security Bureau of Anhui Province, 58-year-old police officer Ma Yimin has never fought directly with criminals. Instead, he has stayed silently in front of the computer screen for many years, using big data technology to make it difficult for criminal suspects to escape. In recent years, he has helped more than 13,000 people living in other places return to their hometowns for reunion.

Ma Yimin has been awarded "National Outstanding People's Police", "China Social Welfare Foundation's Most Beautiful Volunteer Award", "Anhui Good Person", "2022 Anhui Province Top Ten Rule of Law Figure Nomination Award", "2022 Province's Most Beautiful Grassroots Police" and other honors. January 10 is the fourth Chinese People's Police Day. The Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Public Security released a list of 37 candidates for the 2023 "Most Beautiful Grassroots Police Officers", and Ma Yimin was among them.

A "clairvoyant" on the public security communications front

Ma Yimin was born into a police family. His father joined the public security service in 1952. His elder brother Ma Yuanxin was the first public security hero in Dingyuan County after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Ma Yimin was interested in radio when he was in junior high school. After graduating from high school in 1984, he enlisted in the army to work in communications technology. After retiring from the army in 1987, he returned to Dingyuan County. In 1993, Ma Yimin entered the Dingyuan County Public Security Bureau and engaged in communication support work.

"I wanted to be a good policeman like my father and brother." Ma Yimin told reporters. Since then, he has been working quietly in the public security information and communication technology position, and he has been determined to be the "clairvoyant" on the public security communication front.

Around 2018, gang theft was once rampant in towns and villages in Dingyuan County, and the masses responded strongly. Ma Yimin used scientific and technological means to discover information about criminal gangs based on vehicle characteristics, captured the suspects in one fell swoop, and eliminated all other gangs, greatly improving the people's sense of security.

In 2020, public security agencies across the country launched a special operation to tackle the backlog of murder cases, and Ma Yimin was transferred to the task force. On September 20, 2020, he received help from the Ruili Municipal Civil Affairs Department of Yunnan Province to help verify the identity information of a man who called himself "Luo". The next day, Ma Yimin found through verification that the facial features of the man who called himself "Luo" were very similar to Ma, who was being chased online by the Xinjiang police on suspicion of intentional homicide. However, "Luo" had already left the rescue station at this time. Dingyuan County police officers quickly rushed to Ruili City and captured the suspect Ma in the early morning of September 26, 2020. Ma confessed the criminal facts of the murder 24 years ago.

In recent years, Ma Yimin has innovated technological tactics and assisted in the rapid investigation and handling of more than 1,000 cases. His original set of tactics such as "focusing on detailed features and fragmented combinations" has an accuracy rate of over 95%.

Ma Yimin After receiving such a message, he logged into the inquiry system and based on the few pieces of information, he quickly located Yizhen's relatives and called to verify. After confirmation, he notified the rescue station, which only took about 5 minutes.

Once, a 13-year-old child did not go to school in the afternoon and was nowhere to be seen.
