It is understood that the total construction area of Haikou New Performing Arts Space is about 26,000 square meters, and its shape is like a white floating island covered with shells. This project aims to create a new cultural and performing arts landmark in Haikou Bay. It is oriented towards drama viewing activities, focuses on space combination forms, and combines traditional theater space with innovative outdoor theater activity space. The museum has multiple functional areas, including a 500-seat comprehensive theater, a 300-seat avant-garde theater, and a 100-seat rooftop amphitheater. It can host various small and medium-sized theatrical performances, concerts, avant-garde dramas and other types of performance activities. While making up for the shortcomings of urban public cultural facilities, we will also improve the city's public cultural service capabilities.
After the new performing arts space in Haikou opens to the public, it will complement the Grand Theater of Haikou Bay Performing Arts Center. The entire area will integrate functions such as elegant art performances, program creation, art education, and cultural consumption to form a performing arts cluster.
On December 31st and January 1st, 2024, the Haikou Performing Arts New Space held its premiere, which was the Tao Body Theater's "Digital Series" modern dance works "13" and "14", which won the Silver Lion of Dance at the 2023 Venice Biennale. prize. The performance is divided into two parts, the first half is "13" and the second half is "14". Among them, "13" includes solo dance, duet dance, and group dance. In the work, the dancers are connected into a whole, and then gradually split into different forms. Through slow, medium, and fast rhythms, the bodies transform into Water flows, mountains and rocks, everything.
On January 1, 2024, in addition to modern dance works, the parent-child magic drama "Alice's Fantasy Journey" will also be performed at the Haikou Performing Arts New Space Pioneer Theater. It is worth mentioning that there will be a unique Alice in Wonderland themed parade before the performance. Actors will dress in a variety of Alice in Wonderland character costumes, hold props, and perform and interact around the theater and outside.
