Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fell during a concert in Los Angeles and underwent surgery on Saturday for a fractured pelvis.

The NBA Hall of Famer suffered the injury while attending a show on Friday night. Paramedics at an undisclosed venue responded and transported Abdul-Jabbar, 76, to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

His business partner Deborah Morales declined to provide further updates on Saturday, citing only Abdul-Jabbar's posting on the X website (formerly Twitter) account a statement.

"We are all extremely grateful for the support shown to Karim," the statement said.

Abdul-Jabbar was a key player for the Los Angeles Lakers during their "Show Time" era in the 1980s, leading the team to five NBA championships. He is a six-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

This 2.16-meter center was the NBA's career scoring leader until he was surpassed by LeBron James of the current Lakers in February this year. Abdul-Jabbar held this record for 39 years.

He played at UCLA under coach John Wooden, then known as Lew Alcindor, and was a three-time All-American.

Abdul-Jabbar revealed in 2020 that he had prostate cancer. In 2009, he said he had been diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia, a blood cancer, the previous year.
