Albanese said in an interview with the media, "It is an honor to express my personal condolences to King Charles, and I also mourn on behalf of the Australian people."
reported that Albanese declined to give details of the meeting, but the prime minister said it was a great honour to be able to meet the king in private.

Before meeting the king, Albanese and his partner Jodie Haydon went to Westminster Hall to pay their respects to the Queen's coffin.
Albanese said the last time he was in Westminster Hall was to listen to a Brexit debate, and today was such a solemn occasion that he "will never forget".

Earlier in the day, Albanese also went to Buckingham Palace to lay flowers for the Queen. The bouquet presented by the Australian Prime Minister included eucalyptus leaves , which is very Australian, and a "sentimental" card.

Australia's Nine News reported that Albanese also communicated with British Prime Minister Liz Truss.
Albanese said the two exchanged views on a range of issues, but nothing "very specific". "This is the second face-to-face interaction between Truss and I, and the first since she's been prime minister."
