自从经历过好莱坞的#MeToo事件后，除了让曾受性侵伤害的女性勇敢站出来外，也唤醒了人们面对影视业中男女比重失衡的问题，不少女性于影视业中的待遇和薪酬都不平等，就连得奖机会也比男性少。其实影视界有不少杰出的女性工作者，而今次为了进一步宣扬女性在电影界的努力，就邀请了来自84个国家的368位专家，其中男女比例各占接近一半，共同票选出761部电影，然后再进行评分排列出「女性导演最佳百大电影」。
今次女性导演最佳百大电影的排行榜中，有不少都是耳熟能详的女性导演，包括首位女性奥斯卡最佳导演得主Kathryn Bigelow、《Lost in Translation》的Sofia Coppola、《The Matrix》的跨性别女性导演组合Lana and Lilly Wachowski和近年《Lady Bird》的Greta Gerwig。另外，于今年逝世的法国导演Agnès Varda也有不少上榜作品。
其实要做到男女平等第一步就是学懂撇开标签，虽然这次也特别把「女导演」标签出来，无形间把女性于导演这个职业中规限出来，但相信随着时代过去，电影业男女比例能进一步得到平衡，女性终能跟男性并齐。
