On November 13, the script promotion meeting of the "New Era Capital Script Incubation Project" was held in Beijing.
At this promotion meeting, 6 industry experts classified and recommended 57 excellent scripts selected for reserve incubation. More than 100 literary and artistic troupes and production organizations from across the country, as well as cultural authorities from various districts in Beijing gathered together to jointly promote the incubation of works. , to help cultivate and transform excellent scripts into excellent stage literary and artistic works.
Ma Wen, a second-level inspector of the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, said that the New Era Capital Script Incubation Project aims to closely connect the vast number of script creation talents to jointly contribute high-quality scripts to the literary and art stage and contribute to the construction of a "performing city" . Since the launch of the project in 2022, it has produced the dialogue drama "Looking at the Galaxy", the opera "The Return of Bao Zheng", "Those Things in the Imperial Kitchen", the children's drama "Letter from the Deep Sea", "The Mysterious Journey of Maizi", and the dance drama "Past and Present Life·Peony" 24 key scripts including "The Pavilion" were incubated and displayed in an all-round way.
It is reported that this year’s “New Era Capital Script Incubation Project” has 300 authors from 81 cities in 26 provinces across the country participating in submissions, and 393 valid works have been collected, including 101 script outlines and 292 complete scripts. These works include dramas, operas, children's plays, musicals, operas, dance dramas and other artistic categories, covering realistic themes, revolutionary themes, historical themes, Beijing themes and other types.
This year, more than 50 experts participated in topic selection, style sharing, work discussion, script review and other aspects. Among the reserve incubation works, there are excellent scripts of various themes: the musical "Champa Flowers Looking North" which shows the friendship between the people of China and Laos along the "One Belt and One Road", and the expression of life through national style music and body movements. There are realistic themes such as the philosophical dance theater "White Clouds"; there are revolutionary themes such as the children's drama "Portrait of Dad" that expresses the heroic spirit of martyrs from a child's perspective; there are also revolutionary themes such as Li Qingzhao, Wang Bo, etc. There are historical themes such as the Kun Opera "Li Qingzhao and Zhao Mingcheng" and the Peking Opera "The Hunt for the Murderer" based on the characters' lives; there are also traditional themes such as the dramas "Jizhen" and "You Misunderstood Me" which tell the story of people's struggle and perseverance in turbulent years. , the dramas "The Collection of Ten Thousand Parallels" and "Tonglivonia Hotel" are created around the Grand Canal Cultural Belt, and the Beijing opera "Liu Biju" depicts the rise and fall of a century-old brand in Beijing and other Beijing themes. In addition to original works, literary adaptations such as Peking Opera "A Poor Job Changes His Life", Beijing opera "Crescent Moon", Kun Opera "Hua Hu", etc. also have their own characteristics.
This promotion meeting invited 6 guests to promote the work to more than 100 literary and art troupes and production organizations from the perspectives of the title, artistic level, and incubation space of the work. In June this year, the drama "Looking at the Galaxy" successfully premiered at the 9th China Original Drama Invitational Exhibition and received wide acclaim. The play is an incubation work of this project in 2022 and received funding from the Beijing Culture and Art Fund in 2023. Director Wang Ting said that he has gained a lot of "nutrients" by participating in incubation activities, and will continue to invest in artistic creation and contribute to the development of literature and art in the future.
Jiang Tonglin, a drama critic and former executive vice president of the Chinese Drama Literature Society, has witnessed the growth of the project as a senior expert who has long participated in the support. He said that the project has become a highlight in the cultural field of the capital and has effectively cultivated and helped many young creators.
Ma Junyan, deputy director of the Tongzhou District Culture and Tourism Bureau, introduced that in 2023, the project organized a team of creators to go to Tongzhou District to collect and research, and thus the Beijing opera children's drama "The Ballad of the Canal" was born. This work has not only become the focus of Tongzhou District this year The incubated projects have also become a cultural link connecting the past and the future.Inspired by this, Tongzhou District also launched the "Sub-center Canal-themed Original Script Creation and Topic Collection Incubation Activities" at the beginning of the year, focusing on tapping the creative potential of the district.
Pan Yan, vice president and secretary-general of the China Performance Industry Association, said that the China Performance Industry Association continues to support original works and is willing to provide more assistance for excellent original content to come to the stage. The association will use its own resources and influence to help investment and production institutions in the industry connect with high-quality content, help more scripts obtain production channels and incubation and display stages, contribute to the cultural performing arts market in the capital and even the country, and promote the birth of more outstanding works and successful implementation.
It is reported that this project will incubate no less than 10 works, tailor-made targeted incubation methods based on the characteristics of each work, and organize literary and art troupes, production agencies, and authors to negotiate and connect to better promote the implementation and transformation of excellent scripts.
