The musical drama "Dunhuang Called" is written and directed by Tian Qinxin, director of the National Theater of China, composed by musician Jin Peida, and starred by young actor Zhang Yixing. By telling a "cross-time and space" story about two generations of young people from France to Beijing, two time and space are wonderfully intertwined, the play shows the ingenuity and inheritance between generations of Dunhuang people, and reflects the spiritual connection between Mogao's spirit and contemporary youth. The play innovatively integrates drama, music, dance and other art forms, uses multimedia visuals to create changing stage scenes, creates a multi-space and multi-linear narrative structure, and adds real-time images to it, allowing Dunhuang culture to be renewed through the dramatic stage.
"Dunhuang Called" has a total of more than 20 original tracks, with various styles, including Chinese style, French style, love songs of lovelorn, and grand expressions; it also has rich dance, action and stunt performances, so There are extremely high requirements for actors' voices, stage, appearance and performance. To this end, the crew performed "multiple lines in parallel". The actors conducted targeted rehearsals for lines, vocals, dance, etc. in different rehearsal halls, and at the same time concentrated on drama rehearsals. The actors all said that the call of Mo Gao's spirit and the guidance of artistic seniors kept them immersed in great passion, witnessing a story transforming from a grand idea into shocking art, and personally participating in it, which is very important for young actors. In May this year, the main creative team went to Dunhuang, Gansu Province to deeply understand the protection, inheritance and utilization practices of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, and feel the integration of ancient and modern, new Intertwined with the old. Through the intimate blending of body and mind with history and the earth, the creative team injected the materials and insights gained from the Dunhuang style collection into the creation. The script and lines present rich traditional cultural heritage and profound Chinese expressions, laying the foundation for the entire drama. The extraordinary atmosphere of broad tolerance and free opening and closing.
Tian Qinxin said frankly that this work is a challenging and innovative attempt in her artistic career.
