On August 28, Douyin Security Center issued a penalty announcement on the hot content verification mechanism. In order to maintain a good community ecology,
implements the special work requirements of "Clearness and Rectification of "self-media" without bottom line traffic", and effectively cracks down on illegal activities such as "speculating on social hot spots by any means" and "self-directed and self-acted fraud". On May 27, the platform issued the "Douyin Announcement on Implementing a Verification Mechanism for Hot Content", launching a mechanism led by the platform and cooperating with relevant local agencies and news media to verify parties involved in hot events and suspected interpretation content.
So far, Douyin’s “No Bottom Line Bots Traffic” management team has been involved in verifying 203 hot events and punished 1,174 accounts. During verification, the
platform found that there has been an increase in "annoying" fake staged videos that exaggerate family conflicts and create identity conflicts, and will focus on this in the future.
The following are typical cases that the platform has recently intervened in to verify:
Case 1: Matrix account posing for arranged marriages three times since the age of 14. Recently, the account "She is the second sister of Lao Wang's family" released a video claiming that her parents arranged three marriages between the ages of 14 and 20. When she was 16, she gave birth to a son with "a man 30 years older than me." And has hired a lawyer to sue the biological parents. The account
has previously released multiple videos, involving plots such as "looking for the lost third sister", "argument with the third sister", "conflict with the mother", etc., and interacts frequently with several accounts claiming to be "the third sister" and "eldest sister". Subsequent content released by these "sisters" covered topics such as arranged marriages by parents, preference for sons over daughters, underage childbirth, domestic violence, counterattacks by business leaders, etc., and was highly suspected of being staged.
Douyin’s “No Bottom Line Bountiful Traffic” management team found after research that when the account claimed to have entrusted a lawyer to sue the biological parents, the background of the video shooting was the front desk of a law firm. The platform verified from the law firm: The law firm has not received any relevant commissions. After checking the surveillance, it was found that someone used the background of the law firm to shoot videos during off-duty hours. The
platform contacted several "sister" accounts to verify the information and asked them to provide evidence, but they were refused. According to the "Douyin Content Creation Rules for "Performance" Works", the platform decided to ban multiple associated accounts indefinitely.
Case 2: A woman threw an object from her car window, causing a rear-end collision. During the mediation, she said, "I have money and I will not apologize." An account posted a video with the aforementioned content, which attracted the attention of netizens. After verification by the platform, the video was a short drama shot by an agency to popularize the law and had been broadcast on public media before. The owner of this account is an actor, and when he posted his work, he did not mark it as "performance," which caused misunderstandings among netizens. The account has now deleted the video and clarified it in a prominent position on the account.
platform reminds: When creators create and publish fictional content through plot interpretation, they must clearly mark the relevant video as a interpretation in a prominent position or in a prominent form. The copy includes but is not limited to "fictional interpretation, for entertainment only", etc. For details, see " Douyin’s “Fictional Interpretation” Self-Declaration Addition Manual”.
Case 3: An account claimed that his daughter-in-law drank pesticides. Recently, the account "a***terity" was hyping up family conflicts, filming a video of the daughter-in-law falling unconscious after drinking medicine, and the mother-in-law crying in grief. The Douyin "No Bottom Line Broadcasting Traffic" management team found that the above content was suspicious of interpretation and verified it with the account. The account has deleted the relevant videos after receiving inquiries from the platform. The account's behavior of falsely posing for photos violated Douyin's content creation rules for "performance" works. The platform decided to revoke its profit-making rights for 60 days, ban it for 30 days, erase its recent increase in followers, and include the account on the platform Focus on the list.
Case 4: Multiple accounts pretending to be parties to hot events. Recently, a netizen posted content on other social platforms to report that he had been beaten by his classmates, which attracted the attention of netizens. The platform found that 8 accounts on the site had changed their nicknames and avatars and claimed to be whistleblowers. After verification by the platform, all the above-mentioned accounts were counterfeit. According to community rules, the platform has reset the above account information and permanently banned it.
Douyin advocates creators to record real and beautiful lives. The platform will continue to deal with violations such as "unbounded traffic gambling" through product means and operational means.
