Why did “Gemei” come to Chongqing?
Wu Zhengqian said that the heavy rain process was mainly caused by the westward extension of the subtropical high pressure in the western Pacific, which caused the residual circulation of Typhoon "Gemei" to move westward to the Chongqing area, causing the accumulation of water vapor in the Chongqing area.
Data shows that from 20:00 on July 28 to 11:00 on July 29, the maximum rainfall occurred in Zhengshu Village, Xiushan, at 216.3 mm; the maximum hourly rainfall was 77 mm (Kaizhou Houba, 08:00 on the 29th). 35 rainfall stations in eight districts and counties: Zhongxian, Wanzhou, Kaizhou, Pengshui, Shizhu, Qianjiang, Youyang, and Xiushan experienced heavy rains. Fengdu, Zhongxian, Wanzhou, Kaizhou, Yunyang, Pengshui, Shizhu, Heavy rainfall occurred at 206 rainfall stations in 10 districts and counties of Qianjiang, Youyang and Xiushan.
"This Typhoon Gemei mainly affects the central and eastern areas of Chongqing. It has already caused heavy rains and heavy rainstorms in the central and eastern areas of Chongqing. The maximum rainfall reached 216.3 mm and appeared in Xiushan." Wu Zhengqian also mentioned that this time Rainfall is somewhat extreme.

How long will the heavy rainfall continue?
Wu Zhengqian said that currently, the residual circulation of Typhoon "Gemei" is slowly moving northward, and the residual circulation of Typhoon "Gemei" will still cause rainfall in some areas of Chongqing on the 30th. The remnant circulation of Typhoon Gemei will move to southern Shaanxi on the night of the 30th, and will then weaken significantly until it disappears.
After the 31st, affected by the outer circulation of the western Pacific subtropical high pressure, most areas of Chongqing will be cloudy, with showers or thunderstorms still occurring in some areas, and the temperature will rise to 37°C.
Cool weather will continue today and tomorrow, and high temperatures will return the next day.
According to the city meteorological observatory, there will be more showers or thunderstorms in Chongqing in the next three days. By the day of the 30th, there will be heavy rains to heavy rains in some parts of the central and eastern parts, and local heavy rains. The precipitation will be extreme. Light to moderate rain will occur in the remaining areas. Rainfall is accompanied by strong convective weather such as short-term heavy rainfall, local strong winds, thunder and lightning. By August 1, cloudy weather returns.
