Recently, the barrier-free version and the regular version of the fantasy action film " Under the Stranger " directed by Wu Ershan and adapted from the popular Chinese comic were launched in theaters simultaneously. In 74 theaters in Beijing, Shanghai, Ningbo, Suzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and other cities, visually impaired people can also buy tickets to watch movies and enjoy the same movie-watching experience as ordinary people. By opening up the entire link from online to offline movie viewing, the visually impaired can not only go to theaters to "watch new movies at the same time", but also "watch new movies online" without leaving home. Director Wu Ershan "appeared" on the scene through video, calling on more colleagues and producers to authorize the production of more barrier-free versions of film and television works, so that blind friends can equally enjoy the fun of watching movies.

With the support and guidance of the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation and Shanghai Film Bureau, more than 40 visually impaired audiences and their relatives and friends gathered at Shanghai Cathay Cinema to watch the screening of the barrier-free version of "Under the Stranger". By configuring barrier-free projection equipment, visually impaired viewers can wear earphone receivers to listen to the narration, while sighted viewers can watch movies the same as usual, achieving "integrated viewing" and smoothly watching the same movie in the same theater. Starring Hu Xianxu also said in the video: "I hope that the barrier-free version of this movie can bring imagination space and a smooth viewing experience to visually impaired friends. We look forward to more types of movies making barrier-free versions in advance."

"Under the Stranger" is the second barrier-free film this summer, following " Catch a Baby ", directed by the China Association for the Blind and co-produced by Tencent, the China Braille Library, and the Shanghai Film Distribution and Exhibition Industry Association. The film adds narration between the lines and sound effects of the original version to help the visually impaired understand the plot and achieve coherent viewing.

The film "Under the Stranger" is adapted from the popular Chinese comic "Under the Stranger" on the Tencent platform. The comic has been serialized for 8 years and has more than 30 billion views. It is known as the "peak Chinese comic". Since 2016, Tencent has successively promoted the development of animation, games, film and television dramas and other categories of this IP, and accumulated a solid user base. Director Wu Ershan said that "Under the Stranger", like "The Trilogy", inherits traditional Chinese culture and makes innovative expressions, and will bring the trend of "national style and extraordinary power" to the summer season.

In order to meet the simultaneous viewing needs of the visually impaired, the production of a barrier-free version needs to be based on the film source in advance and complete a series of processes such as commentary script writing, commentary recording, and mixing and synthesis. This requires the cooperation of film producers, producers, distributors, theaters and other links. As the main producers of the film "Under the Stranger", Tencent and its subsidiary China Literature Group promoted the copyright authorization of the film and worked with all parties to open up the entire process from the production of the accessible version to distribution and screening.

During the production process, public welfare volunteers from Tencent Video’s “Accessible Theater” repeatedly watched and studied the original film, and wrote an explanation script that was of appropriate length and precise expression. Visually impaired evaluators participated in the trial viewing session and made suggestions for modifications to the script in terms of language style, narrative logic, and detail characterization. Chinese Braille Library oral description experts provided guidance throughout the process and worked with volunteers to optimize the final draft. The "Love Cinema" project team of the Shanghai Film Distribution and Exhibition Industry Association recorded commentary based on the script, edited the commentary audio track, and synthesized it with the original film to finally produce a barrier-free version.

During the release and screening stage, the barrier-free version of the movie received support from Xinli Media and Shanghai Film Technology Factory. They make digital copies of film sources with commentary tracks in advance and distribute them to theaters with barrier-free screening conditions for screening.

Previously, after the barrier-free version of "Catch a Baby" was released on July 13, it received an enthusiastic response from blind audiences. They said that watching movies with "zero time difference" allowed them to finally watch movies easily with their families, "watch movies" and laugh together, which is particularly important to them.

It is reported that after the accessible versions of "Catch a Baby" and "Under the Stranger" are released in theaters, they will also be launched on Tencent Video's "Accessible Theater" as soon as possible. In May this year, Tencent teamed up with the Chinese Braille Library to launch the Tencent Video "Accessible Theater" for free viewing for the blind, and authorized a number of high-quality film and television series such as " Hot and Spicy " and " The Long Season" "wait. They have also launched volunteer recruitment to speed up the production of barrier-free versions, and plan to launch more than 600 film and television works in batches to initially solve the practical pain points of visually impaired people having difficulty watching movies online.
