On the occasion of Teacher's Day, director Liang Ming accepted an exclusive interview with reporters and shared the story behind the filming of this film.

Reporter: Why did you make such a film? Where did this original intention come from?

Liang Ming: As a filmmaker and a university teacher, I have always paid close attention to educational themes, especially rural education, and I also know very well the importance of teacher education. Human responsibility and significance. My 2014 film "Flag" is about rural education. And "Teacher, Don't Cry" is an authentic work about rural teachers. Here is our strong affection for teachers as a group, and our close attention to rural children. This is not only the responsibility of us filmmakers, but also a group that the entire society should care about.

There is no shortage of commercial blockbusters in Chinese movies now, and there are also many high-box office movies. We are actively exploring and innovating on various themes. We hope that there will be more rural and educational movies.

Movies are the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty. We use the real light and shadow on the screen and the values ​​​​of the work to move and influence the audience. This is our original intention in making movies. "Teacher, Don't Cry", a work about rural teachers, is full of heart-warming power! We want to turn this understanding and respect for teachers as a group, and our care and love for children into a movie. A simple and sincere creative energy, this is my professional mission as an educator, and it is also my original intention as a director. I hope everyone will watch this movie together, support rural teachers, and pay attention to the great cause of our rural revitalization.

Reporter: How did you use visual language to conceive and construct the method and characteristics of this narrative? The poetic and romantic feelings overflowed the screen. What was your creative style and creative experience this time? Can you share it with everyone.

Liang Ming: The essence of movies is audio-visual art. The concept of visual language is very important for movies. To write with light and shadow, to convey emotions visually, the depiction of texture and poetic expression have always been my main focus in imaging. The pursuit and characteristics of creation. From the beginning of our creation, we made it clear that "Teacher, Don't Cry" is a film about growth and love. While depicting the emotions of teachers and students, it also depicts the romance of simple emotions. Before starting production, the main creator visited many towns in Shaoguan. In addition to collecting materials for the story, he also worked hard to find the beautiful scenery that can best add points to the story. Finally, the shooting locations were selected in Nanxiong City, Shaoguan, the "Hometown of Lingnan Ginkgo" and Shixing County, a "thousand-year-old county". It was late autumn, and the romantic color of the golden ginkgo trees and dyed trees was left on the big screen for us.

This may be the background of this movie: golden warmth, romantic touching. We use golden warm yellow as the keynote, and use concise freehand brushwork in realism to delicately express the various "beauties" such as the calmness, warmth, beauty, and brilliance of light and shadow. The description of the countryside presents a warm and healing feeling. The taste, especially the photography team, is very particular about the selection and framing of the natural environment! The overall design and positioning of the film's lens language is to present the natural beauty of the countryside, the beauty of humanity, the beauty of emotion, and the beauty of regional characteristics. Reporter: What kind of feeling do you hope the film will bring to everyone? What do you want to say to rural teachers?

Liang Ming: On the 39th Teacher’s Day, as a member of the teacher group, I wish all the teachers the best. Happy Teachers' Day. I once remembered a German educator who said: The essence of education is to use one tree to shake another tree, one cloud to push another cloud, and one soul to awaken another soul. Especially for rural teachers, it is even more difficult for them. In recent years, from poverty alleviation to rural revitalization, our rural areas have changed greatly and made rapid progress.The conditions in all aspects have been greatly improved, especially the revitalization of talents, which is the key to rural revitalization. More young people are willing to come back, and more educational resources can be provided to our villages. This is our expectation and wish.

This is also a social function and significance of our filming of this film. We hope that it can be seen by more people. This is a spiritual gift we give to everyone. Liang Ming: I have always hoped that the students I teach can not only read, but also shoot films of a certain level, and apply the knowledge learned from books into practical creations. For films like "We Are the First Secretary" and "Teacher, Don't Cry" that focus on rural China and the countryside, my students and I have not only a consensus on values, but also a link between aesthetics and creative attitudes. To tell Chinese stories well, the work is not about appearance, but about truly going into life, stepping into the countryside, to understand more of the voices of the people, to pay attention, care, and observation, and then use what we have learned to care for and express Our ideas and perspectives. It can be said that both "First Secretary" and "Teacher, Don't Cry" are essentially descriptions of the beauty of human nature, expressions of simple emotions, and interpretations of hope and love. For contemporary Chinese rural themes, this is a huge creative treasure trove. Whether it is customs or rural culture, whether it is the development of China's agricultural modernization or all aspects of rural revitalization, our motherland is so big, and it deserves good stories to be told. There are too many, but the bottom line is to tell stories about good people, especially in rural China in the new era.
